What if none of our IDs had “sex” or “gender” on them. Why the is that even in the system?

"Actually existing AI" is a phrase I use a lot, to separate reality from hype. "Actually existing solarpunk" is one I might start using. Because I genuinely believe that a general energy transition is *more possible* than general artificial intelligence, and more exciting and more equitable.

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.
now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Enjoyed this analysis of where and why/why not Generative AI is playing a role in fine art.
There is something truly remarkable about Generative AI.
Several years in this revolution, half of the US GDP dumped to make these tools free, and i can't think of a single generated artifact, text, image, sound, video that had a significant cultural impact.

I am not a "tech critic". I am an antifascist, a feminist, an anticapitalist, an engineer. My criticism of tech flows from my politics and values. Not from a desire to save or destroy tech. Tech is an expression of power and that's what the whole conversation is about.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.
The people who need help are not the problem.
It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

Python was awarded a funding grant, funding grant asked Python foundation to remove all diversity and inclusion initiatives they have.
Python foundation said no and rejected the grant.
If you use Python, send a few dollars to the charity to keep it going. I’m pushing a dono on behalf of ScamGuard.

Spent 2 days trying to get Lora training going on my desktop with 5090. Battling all the CUDA and PyTorch and other tools all coordinated in their versions. Fluxgym never saw the 5090 and so I switched to AI-toolkit. It is finally training but I have serious doubts about running this in the Uni lab.
