The lack of commitment to and funding for vision zero improvements is killing increasing numbers of pedestrians on American streets.

Europe has shown these kinds of deaths are preventable with infra and the US spends more than enough on roads to make it happen but we choose to prioritize drivers
America’s plan to protect pedestrians failed. A young woman’s death reveals why.
U.S. officials adopted Europe's Vision Zero initiative, but many cities have seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities despite efforts to improve road safety.

Aurora pics from last night! There were just enough gaps in the clouds to get some images, I couldn't really see it by eye though.

NOAA cut funding for critical parts of the tsunami and earthquake detection system in Alaska, primarily in the Aleutians. I spoke to Wash Post about negative impacts. But, hey, what are the chances of a deadly tsunami being triggered in Alaska? (Gift article, not behind paywall) ⚒️ wapo.st/4qKvavQ
This lab is key for tracking deadly waves. Its sensors are about to go offline.
After NOAA cut funding to the lab that’s been monitoring seismic activity for more than 25 years, nine stations tracking tsunami-causing earthquakes for the agency will go offline by the end of the mo...

Once again I am reading about how the Tacoma ASARCO smelter plumed a huge area of the south sound with lead and arsenic and despite decades of soil cleanup there's no end in sight and settlement money is projected to run out well before cleanup is anywhere close to complete

Charlie Kirk was a terrible person who stood against everything I believe in. He peddled racism, sexism, transphobia, and violence under the guise of reasonable debate. Turning Point USA is funded by corporate execs as astroturf to dismantle higher Ed and promote ghouls like Trump.

This (and the similar actions by Steam) is bad for art and free expression! Not to mention the intentional side effect of LGBTQ artists often getting caught up in this kind of thing.

I will be contacting my representatives about this and you should too!

Seeing a lot of ads for mini "A/C" units which are actually swamp coolers (just evaporating water). They can be useful, but since this heat wave is also high humidity you have to be really careful you're not making things worse! There also much less effective when the air already has humidity in it
