Anyone with critical thinking skills or a memory of past shutdowns should be aware that this isn’t how it works. The president doesn’t gain new powers because Congress hasn’t sent over the money for the executive branch.

Mike Johnson on the shutdown: "It can provide an opportunity to downside the scope and scale of government, which is something that we've always wanted to do. So in a way Chuck Schumer has now handed the keys to the kingdom the executive branch under President Trump."

we need evidence of two things: first, that trump can distinguish fantasy from reality and second, that trump is actually president

One reason, sure, but maybe more immediately important is that, to Trump and many Trump supporters, "cities" and "urban" are code words for "black". Sending troops to the cities is a way of showing his whites he's dominating blacks, a way to demonstrate his commitment to white supremacy.
atrupar.com
Pritzker: "One of the reasons Trump wants to send troops into cities is bc he wants to be able to take control of the 2026 elections...if they've got troops in cities, & it becomes a kind of norm for people, then it won't be abnormal for them when they're going to vote having troops at ballot boxes"

Gotta hand it to @wired.com: they're on a roll. They're doing such good work that whenever I have a question or a concern about tech, my first instinct is now to see if Wired wrote about it.

This cover is awesome.

Big Tech's embrace of President Trump has left many of us wondering: What the hell happened to Silicon Valley?

In our new politics issue, we're getting into it.

Also, we're taking this cover across the US in billboards, posters and a mural. Clues to find us in the 🧵: www.wired.com/politics-iss...

“the decision to roll out the red carpet for the Russian president, a wanted war criminal, is a hugely significant one. It tells the world that the Trump administration does not consider the Russian government to be an adversary, but a partner and perhaps a friend.”

Russian engineering doesn’t stand still, and this time they've created something resembling a vehicle for moving through pipes.

Judging by its size, camera, and remote control, the device is likely intended for transporting cargo, not People.

Very strange, but all graphics on Bluesky are blocked in my apps and web browsers here in the Philippines, unless I use a VPN. Anyone else experiencing this? (Both mobile and internet are with Globe)

NEW: Russian officials continue to publicly reiterate that Russia is uninterested in a near-term solution to ending the war in Ukraine that does not acquiesce to Moscow’s demands.

When I pointed out King’s will lose 90% of its AHRC student-led places under the new scheme, I got piled on by the AHRC Chair claiming I was wrong and scaremongering.

It wasn’t quite 90%.

This year King’s students got 27 AHRC student-led scholarships.

Next year they’re giving us 3.

So 89% then.

How does this fit into the targeting web announced in the SDR, I wonder?
