It's difficult at times to hold both "this admin is doing lasting and serious damage to our institutions and the globe" and "this admin is full of the most bafflingly incompetent idiots you've ever seen who fall over themselves like a Vaudeville act constantly."

The duality of man is incredible.

I spent more than a decade at The Post. It was good to me and I was proud to work there. I’ve largely refrained from being critical since I left. But this framing of the special counsel probe is embarrassing and flatly wrong. Stunning, but not. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

These are not retaliatory tariffs & the media should not use that term. They are based on US bilateral trade balance with each country. This makes no sense. A bilateral surplus is not a reflection of “cheating”. We run a surplus with Australia, not because we cheat but bc they want things we make.

I have to be honest. I think the people in power are so stupid, sheltered and insane that there's no real overriding goal or strategy to any of this.

Checking in on X, they still have no idea how anything works, even basic stuff in their lives like car insurance.

No, the insurer doesn't buy a new Tesla, they give you a check for replacement value, which on used Teslas is falling at 2x the rate of other used cars. 😎

NEW: Although this case doesn't currently involve the Alien Enemies Act, it shows what happens when ICE's allegations of TdA membership get reviewed by independent judges.

I got a transcript of the habeas hearing and Judge Brinkema did not mince words when dismissing the government's allegations. 🧵
WOW. I heard about this earlier today from people at the hearing. This is in the case of the Venezuelan couple arrested in DC for crossing the border two years after it happened.

Outrageously, the government apparently tried to claim they were Tren de Aragua members! And the judge had NONE of it.

Four Tesla-owned dealerships reported that they sold an astonishing 8,653 cars during a single weekend in January — enough to qualify for 43 million Canadian dollars’ (about $30 million) worth of government subsidies.

Now those numbers are under scrutiny by the Canadian government.

The sales numbers provided by the company-owned shops allowed them to claim tens of millions in government rebates. Now those numbers are under scrutiny.

I think many people are not aware of the extent to which our civil liberties are threatened. It doesn’t feel immediate at the moment.

But by taking a series of norm breaking steps, each breaching a boundary that yesterday seemed secure, we can get there.

Due process is not meant to be efficient for the government. It's meant to protect individual rights when the government does things like callously decide to round up 8 million human beings. People who don't understand that need to stay the hell away from policymaking.
And here we go -- Fox News is now saying we should get rid of "due process" because it's too cumbersome.

Brian Kilmeade: "But I also think it's not practical to think that we can do due process on 8 million people."

- Cases of misidentification have emerged❗

- The most senior DOJ officials signed a brief saying these detainees would not suffer "irreparable harm"❗
