Bloody brilliant as ever from @adamjkucharski.bsky.social

Methinks the new HHS, NIH, and ACIP leads need to give this a thorough read...

Covid is a social justice issue.

People should be screaming about this. Calling their elected officials. Demanding the tests be provided.

Many folks can’t afford masks. Can’t afford basic healthcare. Don’t get paid time off.

The rapid tests were one of the few free tools available.
You can no longer order free COVID tests from the government. Despite still having $500 million worth of COVID tests stockpiled, covidtests.gov is closed.

Yes. Journalists should note this:
Every science or tech student, age 5-35 today, is looking at the destruction of their career prospects due to Trump and Musk.

We should be interviewing those students and talking about the impact to their lives.
Every one of my friends is asking “do I even have a career going forward”
“Our next generation of researchers are now poised on the edge of this cliff, not knowing if there’s going to be a bridge that’s going to get them to the other side, or if this is it”

Musk and Trump are blowing up science careers for every STEM student.

In these days of the "now times", I hate Fridays. Today is no different. Terrible things are being done to people I care deeply about - people who serve the common good as public servants.

I can't reach and hug all of my friends and colleagues who are affected.

We are all going to be affected.

How many people do you know that currently have the flu?

I know two currently, in Denver, and I haven't asked a lot of people. It's just that common!

I will wear a mask in clinic today.

Public health matters. Vaccine development and distribution matters.
We’re in the middle of the worst flu outbreak in 15 years. 😷

But, we’re canceling the meeting to plan for this years’ flu vaccine.

And we’re about to cut #Medicaid for 72 Million poor and disabled Americans.

What could go wrong?
I believe we have breaking news in Inside Medicine.

I spoke to a member of the FDA vaccine committee who confirmed that the meeting to decide the 2025-2026 flu shot composition was abruptly canceled today.

My on-the-record Q&A with the FDA advisor:

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

So appreciated this today. Primary care can diagnose dementia and then support people living with dementia. More time, training and teams can make it actually possible. #Geriatrics can be great partners. I'm so glad I get to live this! @cumedicalschool.bsky.social

What, if anything, should we do differently in the Primary Care Setting to diagnose Alzheimer’s? Is a blood test for biomarkers that approximate amyloid build-up enough? We talk with Nathaniel Chin about these questions + more!
