Last week the group celebrated the last day for Alayna Hu, our awesome high school intern!

Alayna developed computational approaches to predict HAT-TF interactions and will attend Duke this Fall.

Sometimes it is nice to remember the good things happening. Below is a lab 🧵, Spring 2025:

Seven years.
Over 400 pages.
About 750 references.
Over 40 figures.
Finally I get to hold the finished book.
It’s a big day.

What if you could think of every possible solution to a problem? Then you might be able to simply pick the best one - even if it was highly nonobvious. With the “tiling tree” method, you can learn, and practice, the skill of doing just that: engineeringx.substack.com/p/the-tiling...

Sad to hear that David Baltimore died. I am one of hundreds of scientists that David generously mentored, supported, and inspired. His influence on each of us was deep and lasting, and his impact on the world immeasurable. Arguably David Baltimore is one of the greatest scientists of any generation.

I’m in the opposite minority, whenever anyone leads a talk saying, “you probably haven’t thought about metabolism since college” I always let out an audible SIGH and whisper to a friend “metabolism has been cool since at least 2009”

“The study authors asked GPT 4o-mini to evaluate the quality of 217 papers. The tool didn’t mention in any of the reports that the papers being analyzed had been retracted or had validity issues.

In 190 cases, GPT described the papers as world leading, internationally excellent, or close to that”
