Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout

I wish I could set up speed cameras in my neighborhood. I just saw two cars driven by teenagers going 45 mph on a 20 mph street next to our elementary school

Whoa. CA DMV expanded Waymo's approved operating area to cover a lot of territory. Yesterday it was just the darker area.

It’s wild to me that our mayor went on a community bike ride where they came across a person killed in the street by a car, and yet as the city hurtles towards new levels of carnage on the streets there is no comment or action whatsoever following any of these slaughters.

This is an absolutely typical intersection for a pedestrian fatality, and where two people have been killed in a year.

-5 lane arterial
-No marked crosswalk or crossing signal
-No median refuge
-Long distances to signalized crosswalks (600' to E, 850't to W)
-Critically, bus stops on both sides

The AI boom or bust will do the same to the State of California's budget. Fun.

Same played out in avocados. A 10,000 seedling University of California breeding program led to the Lamb-Hass, GEM, and Luna UCR varieties... good varieties, but not household names. Program started in the late '80's, Luna released in 2023. This was considered a successful program.
Bonus: a lil talk about how much work it is to breed new fruit trees like apples.

Why? Mostly because about 1 in 10,000 seedlings will grow up to make fruit that's.... like... enjoyable to eat.

We should copy the Dutch law that always makes car drivers responsible when they hit a cyclist. Not only would it reduce the number of accidents, it would speed up court cases.

I wrote about public transit demand, vehicular homicide, dangerous roads and the lack of urgency around responding to any of them. It's also a story about a pedestrian who died in a crash—Drew Pringle, 21—and the staggering grief borne by his sister Erika. www.sacbee.com/news/local/a...
She says her brother was murdered. In California, the crash was an ‘accident’
4,000 Californians die in car crashes each year, usually in preventable collisions. Why?
