Sometimes people will try and cut you down and tell you in no uncertain terms about the job you’re doing.

And before and after that happens God will send people along to affirm you’re in the right spot.

All that is say remember haters gonna hate and don’t forget to be open to God reassurance

My Baptist grandmothers knew full well that necromancy is a big time sin.

Advent has really happened.

Dear all seminarians and soon to be clergy of all stripes. Please leave extra time in your calendar for pastoral care and other conversations. Everything has a way of popping up this time of year.

Today we had a couple bring their grandson (toddler) to the taize prayer service at church.

Came in full of energy and half way through he was asleep in grandpas arms.

My husband bought a car specifically bc of the handle. The joy it brought him was palpable.

Not kidding!
If you have a car with a handle to roll the window down….

You are the richest most fortunate obscenely blessed person in creation

The context is completely different but I tend to feel the same about church consultants.
these people are fraudsters selling snake oil and after their reforms crash and burn they'll be on to the next institution to do the same song and dance

"Sounds good! a guide to church organs"
"Widening the eye of the needle: a guide to church access"
"how not to do it: installing electricity in your church (1940)"

Odd question:

Has anyone been experiencing that families don’t want anything to do planning a funeral service? Like they have no idea where to begin or what to do?

The church is simply “taking care of it.”

I think for my advent discipline I’m going to unsubscribe from every marketing email I get.

Inspiration comes from what feels like a saturation of marketing emails and texts for the past 7 days

For advent we are going to start up a midweek service. It will be a brief meditative service of prayers with taize music and periods of silence.

I perused some of the Church in Wales “Times and Seasons” and found some things that would work just fine, so I adapted a bit and wove them together.

One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

Like yeah there was the bailout but also no one went to fucking prison

I swear a Democrat could build an entire national campaign on “I will reintroduce fucking *consequences* to the equation, like we are going to make that a thing” and win on that alone

We've been drowning in median voter theory nonsense for so long, trying to appeal to this mythical centrist vote, that I think it's become easy to forget that having courage in your convictions, standing up for them no matter what, will in some cases inspire even your enemies

There is an article on Substack from a local news org about how a school district is requiring membership in middle school student clubs to students w written permission. HS clubs remain unchanged.

Why? A “gender and sexuality alliance” club was started at the middle school level. (1/x)
