OR clutch the things you care about close to your heart and refuse to give in to the temptation of nihilism (about motion smoothing only - everywhere else make your own calls)
Leave motion smoothing on this year. Who cares. Your parents or in-laws are upscaling a compressed HD image to 4K anyway. Also nothing matters.

It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.
"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions
the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

My even more unpopular opinion is unless you have personally experienced the thing, you should probably refrain from having an opinion on it.

We need to return to shaming people for parroting YouTube/TikTok with stuff like "When I want your opinion, I'll just find the YouTuber who gave it to you."

The Wicked: For Good album has a "music and lyrics by" credit on the cover but it should really also have a dialogue by credit.

I assume in the wake of the Nuzzi thing there’s gonna be people who think “I should do the REAL story on RFKj” even though everyone knows the real story and either acknowledge he sucks or pretend they think he’s great. All the facts are out about him: he’s legit evil and most likely insane
After all the stuff about how Nuzzi was running sub rosa PR for RFK you’d think anybody with a profile in edits would wonder whether they were being manipulated, too

One thing Rogue One did really well, which Andor expanded on, is establish that the destruction of the Death Star was built on the collective work and sacrifice of tons of regular people before Luke ever had a chance to nail a one in a million shot with space magic

I will never participate in the reclamation of Rogue One, an okay movie with some strong sequences, but decidedly mid-tier. But this is pretty good overall!!
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

The Acolyte was the Star Wars TV show most interested in trying new things and I think if it had been given another season or two would've explored parts of the lore that have kind of just been sitting there untouched for deaces. Not the best Star Wars show, but the most interesting* (excl. Andor).
I understand there's some Star Wars Discourse happening far away enough from me that I'm only getting hints of it in my timeline.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to say: No, I haven't forgiven Disney for not renewing The Acolyte and I never will.

I love this.
What if Wicked was released in 1900?

Here is my take on the book cover / movie poster using the designs W. W. Denslow and John R. Neill did for L. Frank Baum's original books.

(I made the Witch green more for colour scheme but also it's fairly significant to Maguire's book)

I don't have anything funny to say. I love Ted as a character. He's messy, he's complicated, he had a lot of growing to do before he meets the mother. The universe gave him big wins and big losses; it said "Not now, Theodore, but you'll get there."

This is generally true, though I'm a sicko that would have people sort of dumbfounded by my #2 choice.
You can tell everything you need to know about a Star Wars movie ranking by what they put for #3. The tone of the entire list is decided by that specific spot.

Klaus is one of the best Christmas movies made in my lifetime and it's a Netflix original, so there aren't many opportunities to see it in theaters!
Regal Cinemas released their holiday movie calendar. Most of it is whatever, but the real treat here is…

🚨December 22, Regal Cinemas is showing KLAUS IN THEATERS🚨

Good thread.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.
