Money donations to a larger food bank like the Greater Boston Food Bank can go twice as far as food donations because they buy food in bulk.

Consider this as an option when you’re thinking about helping your neighbors out.

We were talking about the best Kdramas of 2024. But then Kat Turner mentioned that she had been in Seoul in April 2025, so we chatted about Korean politics. Here it is! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...

Colour me interested 👀
African developers make a game where African characters steal back actual artefacts that are actually kept in Western museums and private collections while teaching you about the artefacts. This looks awesome.
Relooted on Steam
Reclaim real African artifacts from Western museums in this Africanfuturist heist game. Recruit crew members, plan escape routes, acquire the precious cargo, and bounce out of the joint as fast as you...

Last time I posted a picture of Kent State, Bluesky flagged it as a sensitive image. But here is a cover story to remind people why sending in the National Guard is a horrible act. I had a friend who suffered greatly from the things she witnessed that day.

My monthly reading recommendation, last month, was an essay by Umberto Eco called Ur Fascism or Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt.

A more friendly and helpful read, I think.
"You need to read Mein Kampf to understand fascism"

No you don't. I don't think that's true.

I'm hosting watch parties for When Life Gives You Tangerines. Come to find out that the other people had refused to watch it because it seemed too depressing and they needed support while watching it!

Glad I can offer some Kdrama support! @daebakpodcast.bsky.social @kdramamenfess.bsky.social

Americans need to be like South Korea NOW!!
South Korea's President-elect Lee Jae-myung:

was a child laborer
lost the last election by less than 1%
survived a knife attack
live-streamed his rush to parliament during martial law
wins election with the biggest vote share since 2012

I like this video explainer on how to pronounce 네 (which means yes) and 뭐 (which means what). I guarantee you've heard these words in Kdramas but you probably think they sound like de and bwo when they are actually closer to ne and mwo. youtu.be/mu6TfeVN7yw?...
❓Why does 네 sound like [de], not [ne]? | Korean Pronunciation

I'm watching a show set in Scotland and I see a man with this face. Acting seems much more democratic there in comparison to Korean television where only the prettiest of people have the right to earn a living showing their face on the screen. Is the US in the middle? @daebakpodcast.bsky.social

If #WhenLifeGivesYouTangerines moved you with its depictions of Jeju everyday life, don’t miss our interview with acclaimed feminist and anthropologist Haejoang Cho.

Professor Cho reflects on postwar Korea, the rise of Hallyu, and how fans might “gather and start activities to save the world.”

In this specific cultural moment, in which US democracy is being attacked from without and within, our entertainment choices matter a LOT more than 20 years ago.
I understand the concerns that questionable or dubious political forces are at work in promoting & censoring Chinese productions - but I personally feel it is possible to bracket these & still enjoy the human qualities of a drama as distinct from the political culture which seeks to mould it.

Apart from simple storyline appeal, it's important to be aware of the political and market forces that are compelling us towards specific types of consumption, including an entertainment choices.
I’m a little surprised by how much disinterest (& even outright antipathy) there is to Chinese dramas in the Bluesky drama community (though clearly this is only a small sample). I love kdramas, but I find myself gravitating to cdramas for reasons that are both obvious & hard to explain.
#cdrama
I've noticed a lot of kdrama fans migrating to Cdramas (including super short vertical dramas) and I understand why because kdramas are extremely meh right now but for some reason very few Cdramas hit for me. The cultural barrier is higher than it is for other Asian dramas from Japan, Thailand etc.
