There are so many with retrospectives on today who are saying very good things. One thing I’ll add is that as today is also Epiphany, the celebration of Jesus ministry, this is a counter example to the rising fascism we’re living through;

Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

it's incredible how if you put this entire dialog into the Left Behind series, it would basically work, but instead it's just IRL MN

Generally try to avoid reposting the clips that have been reposted a thousand times—think fifth graders “Didja-know-ing” each other about movie they all saw—but I’ll join chorus here. Homan is issuing a violent threat.

It will surprise few to hear me say that I very much agree!

Leaving my house with the ‘don’t tread on me’ flag on it, putting on my mask and tactical gear, strapping on my weapon, and roaming the cities and towns that didn’t vote for my favorite candidate as an armed anonymous agent of the state kidnapping and shooting people who I don’t like the look of.
ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who shot and killed an unarmed civilian, flew a don't-tread-on-me Gadsden flag at his house, per the Daily Mail.

Worth noting: mission trips to Northern Ireland are a whole thing for Presbyterians in particular (which appear to be the churches Good worked with here).
The woman killed in Minneapolis- whom Vance described as a "domestic terrorist"- had done youth work in Presbyterian churches during two trips to Northern Ireland

Rev. Susie Hayward, a UCC pastor who was shoved by agents and exposed to pepper spray at the site of the ICE shooting in MN today shortly after it occurred, just sent me this from tonight’s vigil for the woman killed.

(She said sign’s design isn’t hers, crediting instead the artist Libby Kercher.)

The reality of a police state is that most protesters will flee before police violence gets extreme. That's what Renee Good, very sensibly, was trying to do. The killer prevented her from doing so, stepped in the way to hold her there so he could kill. That's a murder state.

Hearing reports from people on the ground about this incident in Minnesota, where tear gas and pepper spray were used against protesters who responded to an ICE-involved shooting.

Can confirm at least one clergymember, in a clerical collar, was among those pepper-sprayed.
ICE agents stopped by protesters after the shooting an observer in Minneapolis, according to witnesse. ICE deployed pepper spray and tear gas.

Note: ICE just released its own statement, insisting ICE agents were at risk during the incident.

That is directly contradicted by this eyewitness account, and the reporter just said: "I've talked to five eyewitnesses. All of them contradict the ICE statement that their lives were at risk."
If you back up a minute or two in this livestream, you'll hear an eyewitness account of someone who says he witnessed the ICE-involved shooting in Minnesota.

The witness describes what he say in a dry, even-keeled voice.

And it is haunting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL3D...

“We shld impeach him” or “world shld sanction US” amount to saying “I don’t want to do—or don’t think I can—do anything.” Impeachment shld happen; it won’t; so what’s next? All the world powers are drifting same fascist direction or well ahead; so what’s next? Local action is what we have.

Important not just to name media fails but to specify how. Asking Q’s now about operational details is waste of time: the immediate questions are about Trump’s occupation plans. The investigative questions about Trump business allies remain the same.

Tonight, the President of the United States has launched an unconstitutional war of aggression, dooming another generation to spill their blood for oil, and lay waste to a sovereign nation.

I demand that Congress exercise its power, halt this conflict, and impeach this war criminal president.

Again, the man who’s next in line for the presidency after this walking corpse has said he’s deeply influenced by this outright Nazi, so maybe we could get a little more attention on that?
Curtis Yarvin, JD Vance’s friend & ideological influence, ended 2025 by claiming “only Hitler spoke the truth” about “too many subjects” & “Hitler was a genius.”

Extremism isn’t fringe on the right. Once marginal online extremists like Yarvin are influential at the highest levels of government.

A thing to watch: In my reporting this year, ICE/DHS’s enhanced presence in cities was clearly spurring significant organizing among many liberals — and some not-so-liberals.

The Trump admin may not care, but curious to see if *further* ramping up that effort will backfire come, say, the midterms.
New: We got an internal ICE document revealing its $100 million ad plan to bring in 14,000 new hires: deals with "tactical" influencers; ads to gun & military buffs; and geo-targeting phones around NASCAR races and gun shows.

My Cassandra cred's pretty solid--20+ years on far right beat, ten on Trump, nobody ever accused me of being a ray of sunshine. But at the end of this bad year, I think this too is true: fascism took so much, & yet nowhere near all it could & wants. There's so much left to fight for.
