I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

Lapsed comic reader here. Checked out the latest X-Men story as they were my 1st love of comics. At 1st I was like "What on earth is happening here?" after 2 issues into this crossover but now I kind of dig it actually. #comicsky

My question is, what Marvel/DC from this decade should I check out?

Feeling better now, since Steam sale is about to end and @dominictarason.com got me some new followers looking for cool games, here's a personal selection of stuff that's REALLY CHEAP right now - like under $4-5, some under $1 (at least with my regional pricing)

I'll highlight some below 🧵

Good question! Bonus thread! Other cool people to follow! Starting with @caseyexplosion.bsky.social, who has been doing great sale recommendation threads along with me. Runs a cool curator page. She's a lot more chill than I am, and skews towards slower sims

SFULTRA, and its preceding Old Testaments of (Calling) All Units, Kiss Your Ass Goodbye and Hundreds of Pixelated Dead Bodies, plus the Apocrypha (Live at the Death Factory), has hands-down been the best piece of media I have encountered this year. You owe it to yourself to start listening.

you already know what's up

(steam sale rec thread is what's up)

as always, i focus primarily on older, obscure, and just plain weird games, as big name titles don't need the help.

so, onwards!

Alright, it's time to ruin your holiday budget! It's big sales recommendation thread time! I'll be updating intermittently, so check back.

This year has had some ups and downs. Income isn't awful, but less stable. If you want to support my work, tips always go to buying more indie games to research

We commissioned this over a year and a half ago when for some reason no game publication wanted to run it. Granted it took us forever to publish it but we'd like to do more of this. If you would are interested in seeing more writing on insert credit, both goofy and serious, give this a look/share!
Fallout Season 2 starts tomorrow. In true insert credit fashion, we had to find out the answer to the big question on everyone's mind: What level was Lucy by the end of season 1?

Thanks to the hard work of @iantothemax.bsky.social we now have the answer, just in time for her journey to New Vegas.
What is Lucy's level by the end of Fallout (TV)?
[Editor’s note: I commissioned this article from Ian Walker over a year ago upon learning he had pitched it to multiple outlets only to find nobody was buying. I then, due to various circumstances, sa...

The sequel to the 50 indie game recommendation prompt, FIFTY UPCOMING INDIE GAMES! Feel free to quote this and start your own thread, I'd encourage you to play along.

Very eagerly anticipating this one, the backer demo was juicy as hell, definitely stick this one on your wishlists.

I'm too tired to do 50 individual posts, but I made a backloggd list with 70+ indie gems I enjoy: bckl.gg/p7rP

Avoided obvious big hits like Undertale & Obra Dinn to focus on smaller games, but still wanted to shout out stuff like Pseudoregalia, Umurangi & Thirty Flights of Loving.

Okay, I'll make a thread of 50 indie games which I'll add to over the week, staring with.

1. Carimara

Play as a little goblin creature summoned by a witch to investigate what's haunting her cottage, it's a creepy bite-size mystery akin to the Frog Detective games, and has gorgeous visuals.

December reading.

Some of this is re-reading, to be fair. A lot of this job is thumbing through games and then seeing which are the ones I can't stop thinking about

I love Chinese & Taiwanese Wuxia RPGs, not only for the cool martial arts setting but also for playing differently from Western & Japanese RPGs.

I often get asked for recommendations. I had a big thread on Twitter, so here's a new one!

The more I play of it, the more Fantasy Maiden Wars is creeping up my GOTY shortlist. I expected to like it, but not this much.

Yes, it's Touhou-themed Super Robot Wars, but that means it adds a whole lot of smart, varied multi-phase, mobility-focused boss battles to the turn-based tactical mix.
