I especially like the second one, where the cat is licking its lips as if it's possibly in the middle of eating the baby Jesus.
My favorite Christmas thing of all time are the cats who take one look at the holiest scene in Christendom and say "That baby's in my spot."

Something I'm thinking about after watching the CECOT story. Please don't read this as virtue-signaling; I am by and large a total shithead. Earlier this year, during a slow time for freelance work, I volunteered for a few months teaching ENL classes at a migrant shelter in Times Square. (1/)

here's the 60 minutes cecot video part 1 of 5 - recorded/uploaded by and all credit to @jasonparis.bsky.social

I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here

No mystery here. They don't just want women churning out babies, they also want them staying home to take care of the kids. No need for immigrants anymore.
The MAGA movement wants fewer undocumented workers in America and more babies born to American mothers—but research suggests that those two goals are at odds, Olga Khazan argues:
The Truth About Immigration That MAGA Doesn’t Acknowledge
American families rely on immigrants to take care of their children.

This just shows how bad inflation has gotten. Anyone who’s heard the King Missile song knows you used to be able to buy one for $22 ($17 if you’re a good negotiator).

The U.S. will very likely lose its measles-elimination status next month, and Americans will have to confront how difficult this virus can be to control, @katherinejwu.com reports:

This is Appointment Television (when it's on you make appointments to do other things).
Americans are tired of what coastal elites have been shoving down their throats, so I think elevating fresh voices like the vice president, the head of one of the most valuable companies on the planet, a Times columnist, and a Jeffrey Epstein associate who teaches at Harvard is a risk worth taking.

Nothing bad ever happens when someone tries to consolidate military power, right?
EXCLUSIVE: Senior Pentagon officials are preparing a plan to downgrade several of the U.S. military’s major headquarters and shift the balance of power among its top generals, in a major consolidation sought by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

If adopted, the changes would fulfill Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s pledge to disrupt the status quo and slash the number of four-star generals.

Read to the end. NPR asked why the Trump team ended a low-cost program that cured millions of tropical diseases w drugs donated by pharma. The spokesperson replied with an NPR headline—“Farewell to USAID”—and said: “What do you think farewell meant?” www.npr.org/sections/goa...
The fight to beat neglected tropical diseases was going well. 2025 could change that
The campaign to prevent and treat these diseases has seen great success thanks to a USAID program. Now that program is gone.

I have autographs from most* of the roster of the 1987-1988 Celtics on the back of an official scoresheet from an early round playoff game. I got the scoresheet at the game from my 8th grade science teacher, who had a side gig as the assistant scorer for the Celtics.
