Trams should be displacing cars, not bikes

Save the Roseburn Path! A very special ride this month, reminding us of what we are fighting to protect.
A large group of cyclists waiting on a road behind a large pedestrianised area with a cycle lane. The road has lots of trees on either side.

With the Tram Consultation open, it's time to take a look around the routes at risk.

Looking forward to seeing all kinds of bikes again!

THIS Friday (19th September) we need lots of cyclists for the final scene of 'Amsterdam'. Everybody is welcome, whatever kind of bike you ride. Just wear bright clothes without logos or text.

5pm at Lidl car park in Dalry. Please be on time, or early - we won’t be able to wait if people are late!

There are now 4,400 people waiting for a spot in a secure cycle hangar in Edinburgh - that figure has grown by nearly 1,000 in just the last year. My map of hangars and demand can be found here: rpubs.com/edtiss/hangars

#bikeSky
A wide, grey asphalt path stretches to the horizon under a bright blue sky; on the right, flanked by yellowed grass and mature trees, and on the left by a hedge giving way to the red stone chips of a rail bed with overhead wires. It is a dry day with a smattering of clouds in the sky.

Incredibly pleased to see that the council has officially made the East Area segregated cycle lanes permanent! 🎉

Thank you to @edi.bike, @spokes.org.uk and everybody who spoke up and pushed hard when this crucial infrastructure was under threat.

🤩 #TravellingSafely West North East all now to be permanent

Incredible #TROSub mtg, decided in minutes after inordinate delays/deferrals at previous meetings

One intervention by #CllrLang, quickly disabused by officers

No one else spoke!

The @edi.bike/Spokes campaign has blindsided councillors!
BIKE NETWORK THREATENED
Under the Council’s Mobility Plan, the city’s future ‘Primary
Cycle Network’ will mainly comprise segregated bike lanes on
main roads. It was widely expected that the ‘Travelling Safely’
(covid) bike lanes would form the initial embryonic network, as
we highlighted in the 2025 Bulletin (extract here).
However, the TRO Subcommittee must first make permanent
the existing Experimental Traffic Orders (ETROs) which enable
the bike lanes through parking and loading restrictions.
The first ETRO, for East Edinburgh, expires soon. Officers
recommended approval, but to our surprise and shock, due to
an intervention by Cllr Kevin Lang, the May 12 TRO Sub put off
a decision. Exactly the same happened at a specially-called
meeting on 7 August! The final hope to save the East lanes
(which include School Safe Routes) is at their 4 September
meeting. The West and North ETROs are also on the agenda!
Led by Edi.Bike and Spokes, 18 Edinburgh active travel groups
have written to urge councillors to approve the ETROs.
Without approval, the East order will fall – the routes, used
by commuters, school pupils and leisure cyclists, will go - and
the same will likely happen to west, north and south.
Please contact your councillors to ensure the ETROs are approve

A great ride with @edcriticalmass.bsky.social down to Porty today - weather held out for the most part!
A middle aged bearded Caucasian man wearing a green bike helmet and a red jacket. There's a flag behind him with the word Mass visible. His t-shirt is cool - white with a picture of a cyclist on it.

The rain didn't dampen our spirits on this month's ride to Porty - and we stopped for ice cream too! Thanks again to everyone who came out to ride for safer streets.
View from behind of tens of cyclists filling a road. Person standing by the Meadows compass sculpture holding a bike. The bike has a flag on the back that saus "Critical Mass!" alongside a figure of a cyclist. Around him are other cyclists. View from behind of tens of cyclists filling a road.

People with bikes stood around a street stall. The sign on the stall says it sells gelato and fish and chips.
