Never let them tell you that Irishness is some set, immutable fact of the blood
I find this very moving: a 10-year-old Ukrainian boy who moved to the West of Ireland 2 years ago as a refugee, speaking in Irish of his love of playing Irish music

I spoke to Radie Peat and Dan Lambert last week about the nightmare of negotiating Ireland's autism services for their 3-year-old daughter. Huge thanks to them both for sharing their experience, so many other families are facing the same impossible struggle. www.irishtimes.com/health/2025/...

🚨 A very, very rare wind energy equalling 80%+ of demand day yesterday.

This has only ever happened a handful of times, and not since as long ago as late 2022.

We may be seeing the effects of a few large wind farms that opened late last year. We'll have more analysis later today!
Renewable generation and pumped storage equalled 85% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 99% at 05:30. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 32% of demand. 14% of generation was exported, 0% of demand was met by imports.

"Because health insurance has become the face of both the rising premiums and the intrusive cost-containment efforts that are largely delegated to them, they have become the primary target of that anger. But it’s not just insurers," Elliott S. Fisher writes: www.statnews.com/2024/12/05/u...
Insurance companies like United Healthcare are not the only ones to blame for a broken system
The public response to United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder misunderstands something important.

If - as we've been told all year long by media pundits and politicians - there is a big crisis in public opinion over immigration and asylum, then why does it top the concerns of only six per cent of voters? Surely it's not to divert attention from the actual top three issues? #ge24

The hopeful thing I’m taking away from this election is how few votes the far right guys are getting. There’s no silent majority of far right in Ireland. When they’re out doing their stupid protests, that’s literally all of them out there.
