Johnson: It is equally inappropriate for ICE agents to just throw teargas out of a window because people are yelling at them. It is unacceptable for ICE agents to go up and threaten to arrest and harm people because they are honking a horn or exercising a protest, that is unacceptable.

I was just "briefed" on the strike in Venezuela & it's clear Trump has NO serious plan for what happens next.

Americans don't want to be dragged into another costly foreign conflict, and they don't want “boots on the ground” fighting a war for Big Oil.

No war. No occupation.

Five years ago, Donald Trump instigated a violent insurrection in the Capitol to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 election. The fact that the GOP coddled him, protected him, renominated him, and now support him in office, is a stain that will never be erased.

-- Colombia
-- Iran

And there ya have it…

Once again, now also with 🇻🇪:
Yes, but again, I will simply note that - as we've now seen with 🇮🇷, 🇪🇺, 🇨🇦, 🇯🇵, etc. etc. - the thing folks need to spend a lot more time pondering, instead of obsessing about the end of 🇺🇸 power/hegemony, is that 🇺🇸 power/hegemony is going to persist in a much uglier, unilateralist, & selfish form.
This is a *very* good discussion of the end of U.S. hegemony (aka international leadership) from @delong.social… so good that I’ll forgive him for not including anything that @cooleyoneurasia.bsky.social & I have written on the subject.

Go read.

If Nicolás Maduro stands trial in the United States and gets convicted of 34 felonies, does that mean he’s qualified to be our next president now?

Just checking what the standards are these days.

Q: China, Russia, and Iran have interests in Venezuela. How does this operation affect your relationships with them?

TRUMP: In terms of other countries that want oil, we're in the oil business. We're gonna sell it to them. We'll be selling oil.

Trump: I would like to do it quickly but it takes time. Their infrastructure is rotted. It is very dangerous. Oil is very dangerous. We will take a lot of money out so we can take care of the country.

Venezuela is a case study in how letting the leader of a failed coup evade serious punishment and go on to participate in electoral politics can lead to the destruction of liberal democracy and the establishment of an illegitimate authoritarian regime. Good thing that could never happen here.
