The gap is very stable over time though. In fact, really stable between left-right parties across countries.

It's a big reason why I believe spatial models are a bit oversold. It matters more which issues are salient, often outside of a party's control.

Silver lining is that this is how the GOP takes the party back from Trump. “They were never a true conservative” is typically how the GOP moves on to the next one. Cruz has the ego to sell it. We will see if there are enough trad. conservatives left to buy it.

Hassett: "China has stopped buying US soybeans. The silos are full and there are soybeans sitting on the ground w/tarps over them. That's unacceptable to POTUS. We're calling up our soybean customers around the world as part of our trade negotiations & we'll strong policies to support our farmers"

Much more data from @tesler.bsky.social @goodauth.bsky.social. Tells us something about the backlash to DOGE and the OBBB, I think. And buttresses Democrats' stance on extending ACA subsidies.

Under Biden, there was no thermostatic shift in public opinion about the size of government. The public stayed relatively liberal. Take attitudes toward the government's role in health care:

We live in interesting times. Can’t tell if this is Georgia tea leaves, higher aspirations, intra-party drama, maverick branding, or all of the above, but it’s something to see.
Hi this is your daily reminder that insurance has become UNAFFORDABLE for most Americans.

Health, Auto, and Home.

I wish my party would make this a priority.

One of the best ways to stay connected with family and friends who are politically… ah, distant, is the football pickem pool. Touch grass together. Joke around. Be normal. Sundays can be fundays.

So far at least, Americans are lukewarm about AI summaries in search results. Relatively few who have seen them think they're extremely or very useful (20%) or have a lot of trust in the information they get from them (6%). New data from @pewresearch.org: www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...
Bar chart showing that 20% of Americans who have seen AI summaries in search results believe these summaries are extremely or very useful. Far more (52%) see them as somewhat useful, while 28% see them as not too or not at all useful. The chart is based on an August 2025 Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults. Was at a music show last night that unexpectedly opened with the national anthem. Always chokes me up but this one hit the crowd in a raucous way I hadn't seen before. Felt defiant.

They are opening a wide lane for enterprising politicians to wrap themselves in every American patriotic symbol as a form of resistance. A lane so wide even the Dems shouldn’t miss it.

The book is currently undergoing peer review, but I’m really excited to share all I’ve learned, which is the nice thing about writing a book: I got to share and think about a lot in those pages!
