Do Americans want safe food?

Which Departments are responsible for food safety?

USDA
HHS -> FDA and CDC
Commerce -> NOAA (fisheries)

If one Department is disabled, we don’t have safe food

Enjoy your dinner 🍲

Very sad news: State Senator Claire Celsi has passed away.
I knew her before she ran for office and considered her a friend. After redistricting in 2021 she became my senator.
Let me know if you'd like to share any memories for a Bleeding Heartland post about her.

@modestholdings.com can correct me, but i think Iowa has non-partisan redistricting, so I wouldn’t blame this on gerrymandering

Implementation of the SIPS surgical handover system was associated with improvements in handover quality, patient physiology, and staff perceptions of safety without prolonging handover meetings. ja.ma/46PxqsE

I've redacted the name in this excerpt to be polite because I think this is a completely insane thing to say in the paper of record.

Making health insurance affordable and offering Medicaid/Medicare are the correct and moral things to do. And neither “grows the government”

This is what we want our taxes to pay for!

Some perspective: The ACA part of the shutdown fight is a little less than 0.1% of GDP.
Or ~0.5% of the federal budget.
It's in same ballpark as cost of Trump's estate tax cut.
It's much less than Elon Musk's potential $1 trillion compensation package.

Hasn’t this happened in prior shutdowns?
