We should not forget that Alice Wong could only go to college because she had access to Medicaid. People with disabilities can only thrive and survive if society chooses to invest in them the way it invests in everyone else.

Under a new Florida law HB1105, disabled kids who aren't eligible for a traditional diploma will now also no longer receive a Certificate of Completion. There will be no formal recognition of their attendance, which will cause problems applying for jobs, vocational programs, college, and more.

When you read the comments (I know), the stories of peoples' experiences with burdens are heartbreaking--and inevitably involve the most vulnerable beneficiaries. As a parent whose child has a significant disability, they're also kind of terrifying to read.

My own son, who had a severe mental disability in another city, went without Medicaid for long periods because he could not handle the paperwork. He couldn't keep jobs because of his condition, although to outer appearance he was "able-bodied." He got on Medicaid when he was taken by EMS workers to an emergency room and they signed him up. Later he lost it, until another EMS-assisted visit to the ER. He died at the age of 39 because of a cardiovascular condition that should have been caught years ago. Republican lawmakers are soulless enablers of tyranny wearing crosses while passing laws allowing millions to die. Mel Farrell New York 1h ago “ …which will shed millions of eligible beneficiaries by overwhelming them with pointless paperwork and other needlessly complicated administrative requirements” We have a family member, learning disabled, a type 1 diabetic, with stage 3b kidney disease, and who lost 75% of his heart muscle several years ago, leaving him with an ejection fraction of approximately 23%. He is on Social Security disability and is on Medicaid. Starting nearly 8 years ago he first was placed on Medicaid. Generally the Medicaid recertification process was reasonably simple, meaning a resubmission of the documents indicating any changes, focusing on income. A few weeks ago, for no reason he was dropped off Medicaid, and it required several physical trips to the Medicaid office to drop off duplicates of previously submitted documents. Each and every time we had the individual receiving the documents stamp in each and every document, and give us a copy of the submitted documents. This occurred four (4) separate times, resulting in our having four (4) separate sets of copies with four (4) separate date stamps. To add insult to injury, they asked us to resubmit another few documents. Finally we got him put back on but only after a we encountered an individual who apparently realized something wasn’t as it should be, and actually stated she couldn’t see why any of this occurred; also they suggested, in spite of the evidence of they stamped in copies, they couldn’t find them. Outright fraud.

Covered California (CA’s ACA marketplace) is projecting that 30% of people enrolled through Covered California will lose/drop marketplace coverage as a result of Republican cuts.

Again, I ask, where is the health care industry lobby?

This is 600,000 fewer marketplace plans in California, alone.

Another thing to note about the SAVE Act that I don't see getting a lot of coverage is the fact that disabled people are generally less likely to have IDs, for a variety of reasons ranging from not driving to the increased incidence of disability in BIPOC communities.
