Rent's PAID! Thank you so very much to everyone for all your help; you've done me much kindness, and made it easier for me to do kindnesses of my own.
(Astra's lounging outside enjoying the cool weather, but she says thank you, as well.)💖
I’m at $700/$925 to pay off my Dec. rent, and deeply appreciate your help making it this far!

The awful, frequent migraines of hurricane season are behind me, and I’m better able to press ahead with freelance work. Your shares & support make that easier. 💜
When my friends’ university shut down without dispersing federal loan $, they were left in a financially disastrous spot—& are still trying to pay down credit card debt from that time.

Despite this, they remain some of the kindest, most generous souls I’ve ever known. Please help if you can.
Tl:dr; we are two PhD students stuck in financial hell after our last institution collapsed, and if you have an extra $5, we are trying to dig ourselves out of credit card debt after 9 months with no income. Every bit helps. Thanks. 💙

If you ❤️ owls, you’re about to love them even more:
Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.

You know when you read something so lovely it slows down the rushing, anxious creature inside you?
not everything that breaks me leaves me smaller
the sound of stars above snow
the taste of your laugh against falling leaves
the creatures who fly & call & witness
when you broke open my heart, it didn’t make me less
though I was cleaved asunder
my soul rent, gasping
even the sky fits inside now

Could someone come over and help set up my tree?
Doing it right requires a minimum of one other person (we have to be able to hold hands around it during the part where we walk in a circle and chant).
If you've prepared your Christmas tree properly, by now it should be:
- humming softly
- vibrating slightly
- levitating a little
- wreathed in Eldritch flame
- whispering dark incantations to summon ancient elves

I feel like some of my Bsky friends (perhaps @bomper.bsky.social and @maatlock.bsky.social ?) will appreciate this fantastic Trek tree:
Got the Star Trek Christmas tree up again this year.

Okay, so there’s ONE acceptable reason for shelving your books spine-in.
16th century Venetian lawyer/bibliophile Odorico Pillone shelved his books spine-inward and commissioned Cesare Vecellio (Titian’s nephew) to paint their fore-edges with colourful images suggesting their subject matter. Here’s how they looked on the shelf news.yale.edu/2019/03/14/p...

If you’re going to do Christianity, do it like “O Holy Night.” (Then get off your knees and get to work opposing and dismantling that oppression.)

Now at $700 of $925 to pay off Dec. rent. Astra and I aren't at risk of eviction, but I can't pay for what I need to keep her safe and happy, drawing from my freelance contracts, until rent’s first covered in full.
Please share widely. 💜

This deck looks cool as hell—and joyful. 💖
Fat Folks Tarot was a labor of love by everyone involved. I'm sad it's over, but I'm excited to move on to new projects. This is your last chance to buy the Fat Folks Tarot deck made by fat artists, featuring fat folks, for fat folks. It's genuinely very special. 🩵 Thank you for the love and support
There are exactly 185 Fat Folks Tarot decks left in our final sale!! We will never be reprinting this deck so if you want it this is legitimately your last chance to get it aside from artists selling them directly from their personal stock.

I only need $225 more and my rent will be paid off. Thank you so much to everyone who’s been helping—it’s a rough time of year to be in a rough spot financially. You’re making one person’s hard time easier. 💜

No, I’m not autistic, I just always order a pecan waffle at Waffle House, then eat, in order: One quarter plain, one quarter w/ butter, one quarter with syrup, and one quarter with butter and syrup both.

You know. To maximize variety.

(This post brought to by Waffle-House longings.)

This game is richly detailed and richly weird, and I want in on its gory, myth-dripping, cyberpunk-and-magic world.

…But I can’t brave it alone.

Would any of my Bsky mutuals* like to play Songbirds with me?

*or any friendly strangers
Songbirds is a survival horror dungeon crawler where the dead come back to life and you just constantly get brutalized. It's more disco elysium than D&D. It's got unique classes, body mods, otherworldly beings, and all you need to run the game packed into one PDF.

…I still miss LJ.

I do keep up with my closest mutual from there, though. She got into aerial work a few years back, and just recently, started adult ballet classes.

She posted a video on Insta of her practicing at home between classes. She was glowing with joy.✨

Good news! My housing is secure for Dec. To help prevent a deadline-damaged relationship w/ my landlords, someone let me charge my rent to their credit card as a super short-term loan.

B/c of your generosity, I only need $225 more to repay them in full. 💜

Now at $645 of $925 LATE rent. That means we’re over 2/3 of the way there! You are all ✨amazing.✨

If I pay by tomorrow, 12/5, I’ll avoid punitive fees—and can take more than a few deep, grateful breaths. Thank you so much for helping.

2 is always possible, but 4 is ALWAYS true
Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew
Who are you?

1. a writer in training
2. a ghost in waiting
3. witch of the wine aisle
4. person who likes potatoes

Astra moves so slowly these days that our neighborhood walks might more accurately be called toddles.

Regardless, we just got back from a lovely toddle down the block—cold and wet, under a blanketing gray sky.

Our block gets so comfortingly quiet in this weather.
