The overall lack of good faith negative reviews in mainstream art publications is still the number one problem with criticism. Fix this and the “crisis in criticism'“ would be about 80% solved.

The idea that “Everything is political” is a defining fallacy of our time. Art is art and politics is politics. Art activities and political activities are distinct forms of behavior. I’m not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Can't remember if it was this bad before COVID but I'm seeing an alarming spreading of what I'll call Airport Behavior to other public places. Obliviousness to other people's existence, ineptitude at navigating the environment. "Is this your first time at the grocery store" type stuff

Dem "Strategist"
DOGE is one of the greatest failures of the Trump administration. The next Democratic administration should pick up that issue and actually work to cut government waste, fraud, and abuse. I’d suggest starting by taking a look at Elon Musk’s government contracts.

Tom Hanks explains to Stephen Colbert why he masks on the subway:

"I'm doing a play right now so I cannot get sick... I've had COVID enough in my life, I don't need to do that again. So I'm wearing this for health reasons."

Thank you Tom! Masks are still a key part of public health.

The entire White House should be torn down but only provided that Frank Gehry designs a new one that looks like sort of like a deconstructed Bloomin' Onion

All video art should have picture in picture so that you can check to see if there's anything better in the other galleries while you watch it

Listen to the response to this and look how easy it is to say it.
We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

I think that if someone says "I don’t know what my role is anymore" publicly then it means that they don't have a clear sense of how to do their job and should be fired, ignored, or openly mocked. Like, he's basically saying, "I'm not good at this." Begging to be put out of his misery and ours.
I know I am late to the discourse, but the Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ezra Klein discussion is fascinating. It really reveals the degree to which historocism is anathema to the logic of the average liberal intellectual who wants to take all historical conditions for granted and work from there.

ok, fair point
Next time you go to work, bring a bucket of your piss and dump it on a coworker. See what happens. Or, imagine if a coworker did that to you. Or anyone anywhere did that to you. Would you laugh?

Things look bleak right now but I'm fairly optimistic that the Tent City Rebellion of 2037 will be a huge turning point.
