1) a nice read from @dgoold.bsky.social about said Flood letter.
2) If you can, find yourself a copy of "A Well-Paid Slave: Curt Flood's Fight for Free Agency in Professional Sports"
On Dec. 24, 1969, Curt Flood mailed a letter that changed baseball history
By rejecting a trade, Cardinals outfielder launched a labor relations revolution that led to free agency for players — and cost him his career.

I don’t know how to say this except to say it:

I’m a Guardian top 100 voter and have been invited in the past to vote in ESPN FC’s ranking.

There’s no reason why that, or certainly any “most marketable” ranking that’s even more subjective, should determine if a #NWSL player gets a big salary.

U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis just took the bench. She's expected to rule on a request for a preliminary injunction governing the use of force by federal agents in Chicago.
Good morning. Back in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis, who is expected to rule in 20 minutes on the use of force by federal agents against protesters and journalists in Chicago.

I am really trying to get people to understand how much what is happening to our children in Chicago with regard to ICE abductions is like school shootings/gun violence: the random and massive exposure to this particular violence will imprint on a generation and no privilege can fully shield you.
This was horrific to watch. Agents entering a daycare, wrestling with and abducting a teacher in front of small screaming children. I just… what the fuck are we doing here.
this morning, ICE went into a Spanish language immersion daycare and took a teacher from the building in front of screaming and crying kids and parents at dropoff and the daycare had to shut down for the day (near Lane Tech, where they were yesterday). Really hoping today's "theme" is not "daycare."

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

Not gonna lie, I think every captain should be saying something on Sunday. It was an attack on the league and the sport. Just because it didn't involve your team directly doesn't mean it's not worth speaking on. It can't only be a problem when it directly affects you. It's too important.

This is some bullshit on SEVERAL different levels. It conveniently ignores the former openly trans NWSL players because it doesn’t fit the anti-trans/“save women’s sports” propaganda and fuels the hatred towards Black women who play in the NWSL (it wasn’t just Banda who was targeted by those people)
Deeply disappointed in Liz Eddy here, who I've always liked and respected. A reminder that we have a lot of work to do when it comes to educating the public about why trans inclusion isn't just morally correct, but competitively sound share.google/Gjf9a1Sl01eL...
