ABSOLUTELY NOT

This is a trash song with trash lyrics and trash production that is the absolute worst thing ever to escape Bernie Taupin's head, it sounds like cocaine heavily cut with baby powder and expired laxative feels, if 80s pop music were the Hapsburgs, this song is Charles II of Spain.

I wrote a bit for McSweeney's about Isaac Chotiner interviewing Santa Claus. Just a little something for the holiday season. Enjoy!

This is...a lot. I'm not sure I'd hate it, though.

The true Gen X reaction to being lauded as the "greatest generation" would be to narrow its eyes suspiciously and mutter "whatever" when asked about it

Since June, I've been tutoring an Afghan refugee preparing for their citizenship exam. They worked with US special forces for 12 years, and came to the US on an SIV in 2019. 1/5

This is a good read!
"the issue isn’t that we need more 'boy-friendly' reforms. It’s that boys are socialized to compete only with boys and to read girls’ success as illegitimate or emasculating. The result is dissonance, resentment, and disengagement for boys—and hostile climates for girls."

Today I learned that when Kia batteries are close to dying, they throw themselves a little funeral party with flashing headlights, lots of clicking and beeping noises, and colorful displays on the dash. Then they lock you out of the car for good measure even when you have the keys. 1/2

Jim, A Love Story.

(Don't sleep on the alt text!)
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Pies picked up from Yoder's (including a surprise mincemeat pie for Mom, who was lamenting how "no one makes them anymore.") Looking forward to the first 🦃 day in Virginia in I can't remember how long. My time on the west coast was great but I'm glad that seeing my family no longer involves ✈️.

Just watched E.T. in its entirety for the first time in 43 years.

Conclusions: it holds up beautifully. John Williams is the GOAT. I'm old since the last time I saw it was on original release in theaters.

(On Netflix till the end of November if you need something for the whole family to watch)
