Back in the 1940s, DC was notorious for sending out cease-and-desist letters for alleged Superman clones, but no one received DC's ire faster than Superwoman by New Yorker cartoonist Rea Irvin. The elegant-looking strip ran ONCE, and papers were reporting its cancellation the next day!
