Schiff is my senator and a big disappointment. There were two women Reps running against him, but the old guard endorsed him instead.
Schiff voted to confirm Brooke Rollins, Trump’s head of the USDA.

And now Rollins refuses to release emergency funds for SNAP.

But Schiff acts like he’s just another guy posting on the internet and not a sitting senator who voted for this.
The law is clear.

As USDA’s own staff earlier agreed.

And now the law is upheld.

Donald Trump cannot withhold SNAP food assistance to inflict even more pain during his shutdown.

It was not made up at all. I forced myself to watch the actual speech (on youtube) and altho it was about Japanese microprocessors, he actually said all the anti-tariff stuff in the Canada ad.
I’d like to see a reporter chase down whether he made up the claim that the Reagan video was fake or if someone told him it was. It’s such a goofy lie given that Reagan was such a stalwart free trader.

Start spreading the news: Susan Collins is troubled again!

GOP Sen. Susan Collins calls the Trump administration’s Signal security breach ‘an extremely troubling and serious matter.’

Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here by Jonathan Blitzer really is as good as everyone says, I feel like I have a much deeper understanding of the border now and wrecking USAID will make things so much worse (IDEA: limit immigration by making other countries better!)
Bushra al-Maqtari's What Have You Left Behind is kind of the opposite of this, grim and unrelenting, but it is short.

Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them."

It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.

Good idea!
This is how it’s done folks. If your rep won’t hold a town hall because they know what they’re doing is unpopular, hold one for them and let everyone in your community know what they’re up to.
Congressman Jack Bergman’s constituents held a town hall tonight—because their cowardly congressman refused.
He’s happy to cash a taxpayer-funded paycheck but too scared to face the people he’s supposed to represent. Pathetic.

Sad.
After 54 years, the organizers of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest (which celebrates bad opening lines to novels) have brought an end to the contest. So bummed…a friend and I had a pretty good entry we’ve been workshopping! [bulwer-lytton.com]

Three Dem Reps were running for the open Senate seat in CA, and Pelosi and other powerful Dems all got behind the white male, and he has been nothing but a disappointment, voting for all the worst cabinet picks. My state has gone downhill.
The form letter I just got back from @schiff.senate.gov is enraging. I wrote last week to express my anger that he voted to confirm Brooke Rollins at USDA.

Schiff: "Some of the nominees appear qualified and suitable for their intended roles, irrespective of whether I agree with them on every issue"

Were university presidents so traumatized by the anti-Palestinian attacks on universities that they have crawled into their bunkers and are not protesting the cuts to research funds? Why haven't we heard from them? This is a big deal, and this is important research that is being curtailed.

Decades from now, historians will memorialize Garland not as a dedicated public servant but as the head of the Justice Department who brought a butter knife to an existential gunfight with Trump, quickening our collective descent into neo-fascism.
