The late Steve Cropper contributed to music not just through a particular song—but by inventing the language of rock-and-roll rhythm guitar in the early 1960s, @dgraham.bsky.social argues:
The Father of Rhythm Guitarists
The late Steve Cropper laid a template for generations of rock-and-roll guitarists.

This is awesome. I was specing out a Framework desktop last night and these things look really good.
Framework actually did it. I upgraded a laptop's entire GPU in just three minutes.

This is a great story.
A couple months ago I made an unusual request to my editors at @wired.com: I asked if I could go work at a tech company for a few days to learn how to vibe code. Then, for some reason, the $10 billion dollar startup Notion agreed to let me embed with them. 🧵

The S&P returned 25%. How much did New York pay for a return equal to half of what an index fund have returned?

I wasn’t going to buy a new iPhone this Ulger’s, but that orange color would tempt me.

Did I miss this during the keynote? Native Linux container support would be amazing. Seems huge; will be really interesting play with this.

I’m kind of shocked at how badly this person is handling that weapon. Was this person trained?

The sad thing is that easy ways to increase the birth rate would be policies like universal health care, universal childcare, and support for childhood nutrition, but I suspect these won’t be part of the proposal whenever that comes out.

It's insane how congestion pricing in NYC has been just about *the* most unambiguously successful new policy implemented in my lifetime and still all the dumbest people in government want to get rid of it
Some stats from 100 days in on congestion pricing:
- Complaints about car-honking are down 70%
- The Holland Tunnel has 65% fewer delays at rush hour; time to get thru it is down 48%
- 6 million fewer cars
- Half as many traffic-related injuries
- 1.5 million more visitors to BIDs year over year
How Well Is Congestion Pricing Doing? Very.
One hundred days in, honking is down; bus speeds are up.

The FDIC is an absolutely extraordinary organization that regularly steps in and seamlessly prevents chaos due to bank failures. Incredibly important for both the banking system and consumers.

This is not an organization to mess with.

I’ve seen my share of attempts to obscure bad analysis via sprinkling about of equations, but this is kind of insane.
Because I am a bear of little brain, I didn't really understand the Trump/Lutnick tariff formula -- though it did seem stupid.

Then I read this example from Bloomberg's Josh Wingrove.

OK, so now I understand it, and it's even stupider than I'd thought

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

That seems like a totally rational and grown-up way for a president to behave.
Doocy: "I have been told by a senior official here that nothing is gonna happen with this minerals deal until Zelenskyy goes in front of cameras and makes an explicit public apology for the way he behaved in the Oval Office with that meeting."

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was just demolished by Musk’s team. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 million.

A thread about 18F:
18F is *precisely* what Musk and team claim should exist within government. But when his team found it, they destroyed it, because it is evidence that government works well (can’t have that!), and because like Zelensky, 18F didn’t bend the knee.
