On September 24th, I'll be releasing a piece with one of my bolder theses: That Glen Morgan and James Wong are the innovators of what we consider Modern Television. Their work from The X-Files, to Space: Above and Beyond, through Millennium represents the most influential-on-writers work of the era.

Weird. It’s almost like making accusations generates friction which generates news which rallies your supporters.

The whole account really does have Op Doing Agitation energy -- what's cool about platforms like this is that there are so many people who play that game purely out of sublimated bitterness that I can never be sure!

[replying to no one, on their own feed] "I'm done with [x]."

[random person who saw their post] "Well, I'm not, and saying you are is privilege spoken by the cop in your head"
ericsipple.com
It's not privilege discourse if it's just that you think someone's wrong and you're right.
ericsipple.com
It would be good for all of us if people would stop tormenting the language of oppression and liberation into actually being about their personal, petty grudges. Writing "kill[ing] the cop in your head" in a post where you're policing someone's random, anodyne thought on online discourse is lolz.
A thread starting with a quote of another post.

I'm feeling really done with conversations about conversations about the conversation. It's like social media has ejected us into this hyperreality space of associative terms no common ground. Like everyone's trying to go viral being pithy and petty in a reply. I don't want to spend my life on this.

The thread:

Well...Dr... some people might have to take smaller bites and more passes than you. What you find annoying is probably just your lessors trying to work through

Maybe they should have paid more attention at the "Brink of Human Creativity Symposium" or whatever cutting edge, elitist bullshit you have access that the rest of us couldnt get time off for.

This is a post about privilege and killing the cop in your head and if you think its about your specific poor pretty pet white doctor its really not.

Here’s the thing about social media moderation: you need to have both a provision and a practice of keeping people off your platform even if they don’t break any of your rules but are simply just a fucking asshole. And of course off-platform behavior is a legitimate reason.

I might even reverse this and say that the Democrats won't do what Republicans do and that's why everyone just writes the meanness off as table stakes. The Deplorables thing didn't catch fire on its own, there was a full court, weeks-long press by Republicans to keep it in the public's eye.
owillis.bsky.social
it doesnt help that when trump and miller say crazy shit the leading democrats are like "um um health care costs! health care costs! this is all about health care costs!"
robynelyse.bsky.social
I've seen a few people question why these sorts of comments haven't hurt Miller, Trump, etc. the way "basket of deplorables" hurt Clinton.

And I think it's just because we expect them to say and do mean shit.

very cool that if you are working on behalf of right-wing culture warriors, you no longer need standing to have your claim adjudicated by the supreme court
tomscocca.bsky.social
It's not just that they're going to strike down a law against conversion therapy, it's that they're going to do it on behalf of made-up claims from a straw plaintiff who can't honestly show the law affected her at all
tomscocca.bsky.social
One thing about American's widespread distrust and disapproval of the Supreme Court is that mainstream news coverage mostly doesn't dwell on stuff like standing, so people don't even begin to grasp how rigged the Court truly is www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

I unfortunately think we've reached the point where sitting legislators need to start responding to stuff like this with, "Eat shit, just answer the question."

You could just talk about Jim Crow. I promise you, there's no need to leave America's shores to talk about life in a fascist state
motherjones.com
Under the Third Reich, most Germans generally lived in the law-bound normative state, while Jews and other disfavored people were victims of the arbitrary and violent prerogative state.

The dual state is characterized by the facade of normalcy obscuring the fact of an authoritarian state.
The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.
Authoritarianism—but make it look like the rule of law.

Sean Duffy on marijuana: "To legalize it and to say, 'it's okay for our kids and our young people to smoke it, and it's good for them,' and then they get behind cars -- it's dangerous and it's taking lives ... this is way more dangerous stuff. And then they're lacing it with other materials."

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“
