This thread illustrates the whole notion of a person making their own problem into everyone else's problem. And I think we're seeing that a lot these days.

This is absolutely wild. I’m on a cross country flight. We are being diverted midway through to Denver. The reason? Some dude is sitting in the exit row who didn’t pay the $155 fee and he refuses to move back to his seat.

Still waiting for a more efficient explanation of everything than "Everyone got brain damage from Covid": the airline executives charging a $155 predatory premium for legroom, the guy deciding to customize his own flight experience, the chain of command aborting the whole flight—busted mind-traffic!

A new survey from The New York Times and Siena University shows that registered voters largely support the idea of removing immigrants who have arrived in the country illegally, but a majority of voters now say they feel his methods have gone too far.

I don't like him personally, but David Simon on AI is the final word on the subject.

“.. if tariffs are not being used to pay down debt or in some cases as a bailout (e.g., soybean farmers ..) at what point does the bond market react negatively?”

Donald Trump is breaching the Constitution and breaking the law.

A show of force so he can militarize our cities because of the 2026 elections.

We need to stand up together and speak up.

This powerful JB Pritzker response to Trump's lawless threats is another reminder of what I tried to argue this morning: Pritzker understands Stephen Miller's theory of this moment, and he's responding accordingly:

I hope we all understand a little more how fascism and AI are linked.

We are changing our antifa secret handshake to slap-slap-fistbump-fistbump. Then you snap your fingers once, eat everyone's pets, and make everyone within 50' instantly become trans. Pass it along.

Dolly Parton has been a good person all her life. She does so many kind things for people. Compare that to someone like JK Rowling who wakes up every day and decides to be an absolute asshole.

The White House Antifa Roundtable is one of the best displays I’ve seen of this-is-how-bad-it’s-gotten — just a sewer of open fascism, dementia, morons and freaks, and incoherent rage.

Lance Alspaugh, longtime owner of the Los Feliz 3 (currently one of the theaters for the American Cinematheque) and former owner of the Vista Theater before it was sold to Quentin Tarantino, has passed away. Others on the management theater will keep the theater running.
TEXT:

We are saddened to report the death of Lance Alspaugh, longtime owner of the Los Feliz 3. He also owned the Village Theatres in Coronado and the Vista Theatre, until its 2021 sale to Quentin Tarantino. The Los Feliz will stay open with others in the management team stepping up. Lance is survived by a sister.

Thanks to longtime employee Edwin Gomez for sharing the news.
Lance had operated the Los Feliz since about 1990. Our page about the theatre: https://losangelestheatres.blogspot.com/.../los-feliz...

He purchased the Vista in 1997, operating it until the March 2020 Covid shutdown. He assisted during Quentin's 2022-2023 renovations and his team initially managed the house for when it reopened in November 2023. More about the Vista: https://losangelestheatres.blogspot.com/.../vista-theatre...

The photo of Lance at the Los Feliz is by Keith Kurlander.

I have sat through entire films that didn't have as many interesting and unique shots as this trailer.

NO OTHER CHOICE and THE SECRET AGENT are my most anticipated films for the rest of this year.

They closed the Starbucks in Greenpoint, Brooklyn that replaced the movie theater I went to as a kid that closed all the way back in the 1980s.

They briefly mention some people in the neighborhood actually want the theater to be brought back.

The reason AI hype has stuck around is due to these companies shifting money around to stave off their inevitable collapses. It's only proven to create internet slop and I don't think those whose tastes and attention spans have fallen into the sewer are paying to watch this crap on a big screen.

Jason Blum's take on AI sucks. an AI takeover isn't inevitable, and treating it as such (while also referring to filmmaking as "content creation," smdh) helps AI companies promote the lie that their deeply unprofitable, destructive tech is more powerful and useful than it actually is.

There's a lot of teeth sucking and dirt kicking that they have to report facts instead of being stenographers for Republicans.

it should be a tell about what's happening in the media now that most mainstream commentators seem openly frustrated that polling does not blame democrats for the shutdown
