New holiday tradition unlocked?

Watching The Grinch (Jim Carrey version) and I accidentally started it so that they said "It's 4 hours to Christmas" at exactly 8pm.

Does that make me the Holiday Cheermeester?

At this point, if you are not disclosing that you used AI, you know that your audience doesn't want it

We had our first big web design project at school this week. I think the most important thing I learned is that designer-Erik and developer-Erik are not friends 😂

Again I say: how fucking interesting that remote work technology is bad and not worth adopting despite all research pointing to productivity gains, but genAI which offers NOTHING is so important to adopt and force on people who have no use for it despite all the horrible things genAI does

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

As long as AI slop remains cheaper than quality work by humans, companies will try to use it.

You and your wallet can make a difference, because their generative tools can’t generate money. Only you can give them that.

The thing I had to come to terms with is I’m working on other people’s games not my own. And there fine I put the same amount of effort in but sometimes means working on something that will have zero room of any of your input or ideas and you follow the instructions. That’s why you have personal art

"How do I find my art style?"
I've been a creative pro for 10 years, this is the number 1 question I get.

They want creative work to be recognizably theirs in an instant-- like Miyazaki or Wes Anderson movies.

This is the formula for art style, it's much simpler than you think.

'I just finished writing the first draft of my movie script in Dutch' is a sentence I never expected to use.
(it's just a student film for a storytelling class - it'll never see a second draft)

The Xbox 360 succeeded because we focused on what gamers and game developers wanted.

Not what publishers wanted. Not building a “something-else killer”. Not what Windows wanted. We enabled game developers to make great games people wanted to play.
20 years ago today Xbox 360 launched. The power was never the console - it was you. You camped out at midnight, built lasting communities, and showed us what gaming could mean. You made that generation endure for two decades. Thank you.

The best thing you can do for yourself right now is develop actual skills. Build a deep knowledge of doing something you love. You will be better for it now and absolutely indispensable when this pointless bubble bursts.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

One curious thing that helped me a lot in my freelance career is knowing a lot of other freelancers.

Being able to tell people "I'm not the most suitable person for this, but I know a guy/gal/pal who is" is a great way to present yourself as reliable and considerate, which'll take you very far

As an artist if I were to use stolen assets in my work I'd be at risk of being fired, my reputation ruined, and/or costly legal fees.

If an employee with access to gen AI does it, it's just an "oopsy" and nothing really happens.
