The video gaming space has been doing this stuff for well over a decade. Hopefully the T-Swift fans actually diagnose and blame capitalism instead of getting their hobby hijacked by grifting culture war losers that blame women and minorities.

It really doesn't make much sense to talk about right-wing media as distinct from legacy or mainstream media at this point.

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

Klein has one of the largest platforms in the country, if not the world. At a minimum, not knowing how to use that platform to achieve his supposedly liberal goals is profoundly lacking in imagination. At worst, is a profound moral failure.

ezra klein: "I don’t know what my role is anymore. I’ll be totally honest with you, man. I feel very conflicted about that question."

like, you're a leading liberal journalist and opinion setter in the age of fascism, and you don't know what your role is?

Like I said, I think he's broken.

Klein, like many powerful pundits, is living inside an alternate reality that's been created through their phone and television screens. He's grown more powerful inside that alternate reality by working to uphold the pillars of the anti-reality like "hillary clinton lost because she insulted voters"

This is a demonstration of how powerful the right wing misinformation machine is. They take a phrase or a word some Democrat said, attach the worst possible interpretation to it, and repeat their view of it THOUSANDS of times until even liberals remember it the way conservatives want them to.

streaming platforms have robbed us of the randomness that used to be both an essential property of tv watching and a quality that mitigated its addictiveness somewhat. we were wholly beholden to whatever happened to be on! if we didn’t like any of it we were obligated to go do something else!

Oh, and hey, the Nexstar Tegna public comment period is now open, if you want to comment on the deleterious effect of the prospect of even greater consolidation of media ownership.

Pretty sure freedom fries lasted longer than Jimmy Kimmel off air.

I know people who work at Nexstar and the entire operation is one hilarious joke. Disney/ABC execs would die of laughter if they heard their content plans.

Is anything safe these days? That’s not going to stop me or my colleagues in journalism studies from our work. There is a phrase in academia, “the good work continues.” And I choose to live by that.

This country is a disaster
seanjohnson.bsky.social
Update: The President of Texas A&M, the largest public university in the US, removed the Dean of the College and Chair of the English Dept just hours after coming under right-wing political pressure because a student recorded herself interrupting a lecture’s class that included topics on gender.
Screenshot of a statement from Texas A&M President Welsh with a highlighted portions reading “As a result, I directed the provost to remove the dean and department head from their administrative positions, effective immediately.”

The full statement reads: “A statement from Texas A&M University President Mark A. Welsh III:

I learned this afternoon that key leaders in the College of Arts and Sciences approved plans to continue teaching course content that was not consistent with the course’s published description. As a result, I directed the provost to remove the dean and department head from their administrative positions, effective immediately. Our students use the published information in the course catalog to make important decisions about the courses they take in pursuit of their degrees. If we allow different course content to be taught from what is advertised, we let our students down. When it comes to our academic offerings, we must keep our word to our students and to the state of Texas.”
