Not a toilet rat, fortunately, but during the last winter storm in Houston a rat somehow got into our apartment and after screaming a lot and blocking the room it was in we called our landlord, who came over with his machete to kill it.
If I see a rat in my fucking toilet there is no way I'm going to calmly close the lid and go get some Palmolive

My MMR booster remains the best unexpected benefit of my immigration process. I was so mad I had to get a booster (had a bad reaction as a child and never finished my course, and my titer was too low for immunity) but I’m so grateful for its protection now.
fwiw I got mine at a chain pharmacy last year. it was 100% covered by my insurance and the only side effect was a headache a few days later that might not have even been related.

I don’t remember who shared it on #BookSky and it’s been in my shopping basket on @bookshop.org for way too long now but I’ve finally found a child to gift THE BAKERY DRAGON by @devinellekurtz.bsky.social to, and I can’t be more excited! #childrensbooks #kidlit

Every day my wife and I look at our dog and ask each other, how did we get such a sweet dog? Well, he picked my wife, just like this. He walked up to her and plopped down in her lap, and that’s when she became his. So this video had me in tears. Cause our lil man is my first dog and the best boy.

This year, I celebrated Thanksgayving with friends and found family in New Mexico, and instead of Black Friday we trekked into the forest to chop down a Christmas tree (with permit, of course!) One evening, we watched the first lesbian Hallmark movie, Friends & Family Christmas. It was… a movie. 1/4

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

This is the approach my friend and State Senator @mollyfortexas.bsky.social had in her campaign and continues to have now she’s in office and oh my god it feels SO GOOD to have someone representing you who you KNOW cares about her constituents and her city!
And I think any politician coming from that starting place of "I fucking love this city and the people who live in it" is going to be open to listening to so many more perspectives and listening to what people *actually* need and care about, rather than just cheap pandering.

Ohhhhh this did something to my brain. Wish I’d read it 4 years ago so I could have taught it to my food class, back when I was still a professor.

Isn’t this just a European way to write 7? I’m Dutch and I was taught to write them like this. My wife says my 9s are weird too (they have the bottom loop and apparently look like Gs), she calls them my Dutch 9s.
they taught us this way of writing 7 in French class and for some reason it drove my mom bonkers that I adopted it and never stopped.
We can't explain it, but putting a little line in the middle of a 7 is writing French.

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

I was at this airport two days ago and even as an experienced traveler (my grandpa, a retired business man, taught me to Always Look Up) this was extremely confusing to me!
4) It's also not entirely their fault.

Here's an example of the sign over one of the standard screening entrances. There's a little graphic on the right side that cycles between a walking person animation and an arrow pointing around the corner to security 2 and 3, for other kinds of screening.
