Shame on every member of Congress who won't make this stop
Saint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning.

I’ve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. I’ve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.

Tim and I discuss the accelerationist authoritarianism of the Trump administration during the past week, from the attacks on the Fed, to Venezuela and Greenland, to the depredations of ICE.

Dems should realize we all need to be resistance liberals now.

I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.
The US Department of Agriculture suspends all federal funding to Minnesota, effective immediately.

i'm not saying this as anyone who knows anything about health; i'm saying it as someone who is an alleged expert in interest group politics: the American beef industry is all over MAHA, wellness, and podcast spaces.

remember "bacon mania?" totally a marketing strategy by the pork industry.
New federal dietary guidelines give federal approval to beef tallow, a fat that both cardiologists and the U.S. government told Americans to avoid for nearly half a century.

The new dietary guidelines give federal approval to a fat that has slowly caught on with consumers, even as doctors have warned against it.

The scale of how many ICE agents there are in Minnesota right now is something that seems to be getting lost in the discourse. It’s why they seem to be everywhere.
There are twice as many ICE agents in town as there are cops in Minneapolis and St. Paul combined. How do they imagine it would go down, exactly

The USDA just cut off ag aid to MN
They’re targeting and invading Minnesota. Cutting off all of our federal funding and flooding our state with federal agents with no purpose. They’re here to terrorize, cause chaos to justify their unlawful cruelty. Enough.
Federal immigration officers are pulling out of a Louisiana crackdown and heading to Minneapolis in an abrupt pivot from an operation that drew protests around New Orleans and aimed to make thousands of arrests, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

NYT Ed Board: Trump Is the Jan. 6 President.

"Trump dares the system to stop him. He does so knowing that the same system that failed to hold him to account for Jan. 6 is unlikely to do so."

"In Mr. Trump's second term, he has governed as if Jan. 6 never ended. The damage to the nation is severe."

This is how it's done. If incumbent Democrats won't do the job, their primary challengers can and will use this to make sure someone else does
The Republican Congress has chosen to give away its authority and power and now we are being told Trump plans to occupy Venezuela. We don't cry for Maduro. We demand the following of our laws and Constitution. He is already threatening Mexico and Cuba will be next. Ann Wagner is silent.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

So it turns out that the Venezuela mission and snatching of Maduro was a law-enforcement not law of war undertaking. That’s the implication of the administration‘s reliance on the 1989 Barr memo. It is a violation of international law, but the memo suggests that’s OK to enforce domestic drug laws.

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

A Mad King has usurped the power of Congress—which represents the American people. That is, he has seized power that belongs to you and me collectively. He has declared war without consultation with or approval from Congress. And with no imminent threat. This is a profound betrayal of the republic.

Great that Maduro is gone but what’s next? This may not be the end of a regime that’s lasted through both Chavez/Maduro/their henchmen.

Also what do China/ Russia conclude from this for their regions?

What’s clear:
*The ends can’t justify the means.
*You cannot break the law to enforce the law.

1. It's stunning that DOJ would track Julie K. Brown's (a former co-worker and good friend) jet travel but I'm also most intrigued by the timing of July 2019 -- just days before he died in his jail cell

Epstein's brother believed he was killed because he was about to name names. Is that why...
