I did not accidentally stay up until 4am reading an Adrian Tchaikovsky book where I cried at a scene where a man told jokes to an octopus only for people to write for computers.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.
As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

I improvised a final presentation I forgot to prepare for in one of my classes entirely based on the fact that I found a quarter in my pocket and I could do stuff with my hands during it to distract people from the fact that I was yammering about hot nonsense.
I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you’d agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing “dna” with “bits” doesn’t make it ok
i’m completely serious when i say that much of the dismissive ai discourse on here fires the bigotry neuron
