I shifted over to primarily quilting several years ago, but I sewed other stuff for most of my life. It was a giant bummer facing the loss of paper patterns soon after losing the flawed, but most available fabric store option for a lot of folks in this country.

I can't save the world singlehandedly, and not everyone is in a position to do this kind of thing at all. A lot of people are just trying to survive.

But that's no reason not to do what I can. It's not about being a hero. It's about sharing as I am able. That's all. /end

I have a string of small monthly donations going. I have plans for the proceeds of the Therapist series as soon as it breaks even (an arbitrary line, but see above re: setting oneself on fire).

Thinking about joining itch bundles again and donating any proceeds to a relevant cause. It's something.+

I know I'm fortunate to not have to rely on book sales to survive, and that I have health insurance and a home. That's...kind of the point, to acknowledge that I have enough in this area and think about what I can sustainably give. Not setting myself on fire to keep others warm, but not hoarding. +

Finished The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Short book (more of a long essay), but thought-provoking.

It's difficult to opine on how I can give away what I have enough of, when Bsky and the world overall are a primal scream of need. +

What's cozy-adjacent? Well, what's cozy? Not quite that. 😜

I use it for my books bc they're positive on average, but have some elements of drama, difficulty, and depression rep. I've also seen it used for books that have some violence or non-cute horror elements.

... I'd put the paperbacks on sale too, paperback readers are great, but printing costs put a pretty high floor on the price that we just can't get around.

This is still in the back of my head for the big picture of it all. I wish there were a good option to give paperback readers a break. 🤔

Hades II terrible player update:

- After ~25 restarts, I remembered that you can keep running if you hold down the button 🙃

- I still use casts somewhere between "haphazardly" and "not at all"

- I don't love it as much as the first game, but I'm having a good time. I'm fine with that.

#WIPSnips “store” - from Evil Overlord for Hire.

Zil and her fightiest team member have a heart to heart over a campfire, as one does. We’ve already seen the scene Aspen describes in book 7, where he was an extra.

(Visitors = former Earthlings. Isekai and all. These two are otherworld elves.)

Snippet:

Aspen took a deep breath and steepled his fingers between his knees, gazing into the fire. “I saw the Dark Lord's face once.”

In my exhausted state, it seemed for an instant as though he had read my mind. But no, he was continuing our conversation from before, in a slightly odd way.

“I was assigned bodyguard duty for him on a trip into town. Captain Vorgarag wanted me to keep an eye on the budget. And, well. I wasn't about to say no. We went around several of the shops and the library. He was just buying things for himself, ordinary supplies. Food and books. We could have gotten him anything he wanted back at camp; I think he just wanted to experience it. And in one of the stores...” Aspen rested his chin on his crossed arms, but I could still see a blush high on his cheekbones. “The shop owner asked us all to show our faces. To be honest, part of me wanted to strike her down for daring to ask such a thing of the Dark Lord. But he did as she asked. And...”

I had a feeling I knew what he'd seen, but I just listened. To let him tell it in his own words.

“He's just... he's just a man.” Aspen gave a strange little chuckle, finally raising his head to meet my eyes. “A human, even. A Visitor, I suppose, that's a bit different, but just...”

“Yeah. Just a guy. He's quite nice.”

...and it's great fun. Two episodes are out so far, one to catch up with backstory (mostly) and one to launch the plot.

A dark comedy where the MC lays into self-serving elites is hitting particularly well right now.
