I know I should let this lie, but a thought that keeps occurring is how the government focus on cycling deaths feels like, say, a push on female violence. Yes, women hurt people sometimes, but it'd be fundamentally weird to start by cracking down on a marginalised group that is generally the victim
The only chart needed for today's news on road deaths and the law:

Even under the most liberal of popes, the Catholic Church failed to acknowledge its history of tyranny, torture, misogyny, enslavement and colonialism. It's time for honesty. I wrote this in 2013 about the impending canonisation of the genocidaire Junipero Serra.

George Monbiot: Francis is the poster pope for progressives. But canonising a genocidal missionary like Junípero Serra epitomises the Catholic history problem

Going over Interview notes again and just found this gem (from a former very senior civil servant):

"The Foreign Office is remarkably uninterested in why Foreigners think what they think.“

(Bit mean, actually.)

Over 8 years ago, my transformation into a Dutch cycling urbanist began while living in central Minnesota. (Photo time/place)

It evolved over time and influenced how/where we lived. Ditching full-time car dependency became a lifestyle choice for us and I'm thankful for that transition everyday.

This country is becoming unrecognizable. What we’re seeing is state-funded fear. We’ve warned people: keep filming, go live on social media so these moments are documented and shared. This wasn’t a case involving masked ICE agents—but that’s happening too.

Hooked up an arcade dispenser to give me a ticket every time that god-forsaken word shows up on my computer screen.

Confirmation - though none was needed - that the RW rags will ALWAYS find fault, and should therefore be ignored.

When you think of what the US state has at its disposal, totalitarianism does not look impossible:
- Facial recognition technology
- Armed drones, that can take out marked people
- A propaganda system already enmeshed in our lives (social media)
- Militias ready to become death squads
Resist now.
