Respectfully, news orgs should not report that "Harvard can no longer" do xyz -- Trump just saying some shit doesn't make it law. Stop carrying water for him rhetorically.

Harvard can no longer enroll international students after the Trump administration revoked Harvard University's ability to enroll international students. The school called the decision "unlawful."

If there's anyone at the New York Times who wants to actually cover politics, there's apparently an entirely new presidential administration in power now and it sounds like they're doing some crazy shit that might actually matter, unlike whatever the fuck this is?
Joe Biden's announcement that he has aggressive prostate cancer has derailed Democrats who are wrestling with a complicated mix of sympathy and unsettling new questions about his health.

say it again:

4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

ROI for NIH and NSF for local economies is conservatively 4x, often close to 10x

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage
There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

Hello! The US housing market has gotten very expensive, but I still dream of one day owning a home in a walkable neighborhood. In that spirit, I'm offering my consulting services. If you support the Trump tariffs, I can help you find US suppliers. Let me show you some examples. 🧵

the constitution says you must be 35 to be eligible to serve as president. now, let’s say a presidential nominee was born on february 29, 1972, a leap year. and let’s say they were running in 2024. now, technically, they would only be 13. you could say they were ineligible. but that’s stupid! (1)

Columbia grad student with a green card and a pregnant US citizen wife, abducted by ICE because of his political organizing, and now his lawyers can't find him.

Hey, @schumer.senate.gov. This is your constituent. Bring him back home.
UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

You should know that a big part of 18F's work was to make sure multi-million to multi-*hundreds*-of-millions dollar contracts at fed *and* state level didn't go to shitty enterprise IT consultancies that *repeatedly* delivered tech that didn't work, was late, or didn't even do what it needed to

It's weirdly difficult to remember that Trump's popular vote margin was /less/ than Hillary's in 2016. Biden got more votes in 2020 than Trump got in 2024 and Trump surrogates all under-performed in congressional races.

This is not a mandate, I don't get why it is being portrayed that way.

Hi,

I’ve been a software developer for 30 years, including in very large IT projects.

Everything about “DOGE” and a bunch of Hitlerjugend walking into a data center and optimizing a code base and data grown over 70 years in a few days is complete bullshit on its nose.

Sincerely,
Thomas

It’s a class war. The billionaires vs the rest of us.
