"We have to deny this, for form’s sake, for domestic audiences and to reduce the chance of reprisals," the logic goes. "But we nonetheless want you to understand we did it, and that we would do it again." The purpose of a deterrent is to deter.

Why they can't even bother to come up with good lies.
The Lies They Told
Sometimes, the implausibility is the point. Also this week: the even truer-size map; and some extremely late but mercifully-brief film reviews.

Um ... we've been here before ... wasn't there something called the "Boston Tea Party" which was provoked by exactly this sort of colonial trade restriction?

Adding an LLM to a product like a browser is a strange decision. The thought process that leads to "Our product could be improved if we added the ability to be confidently wrong about a wide variety of topics" is hard to understand.

Really comprehensive. I hadn't even realised some of these were non-US.

First task for me is probably to get off Gmail, and work out whether moving off MS Word is feasible given what I use it for

This is a very good point, and something I need to keep at the front of my mind. Even if there was somehow a magic use case for LLMs and other AI bullshit machines, that would not justify:

• Displacing labor rights.
• Fucking over the environment.
• Enclosing culture […]

I offer Cassandra's Complete Class Theorem¹.

All "good use cases for AI" break down into one of four categories:

I. Bad use case.
II. Good use case, but not something AI can do.
III Good use case, but it's already been done without AI.
IV. Not AI in the LLMs and GANs sense, but in the machine […]

"It's where the people I need to reach are." No, it's not. You can bring them here.

"The people I want to follow are there." You can bring them here too.

Lots of other people have. You can too.
This has always been a Bluesky-first campaign. But as of today, we will no longer be using Twitter. At all.

And I'm calling on other candidates to follow suit.
