Marxists: AI is a technology for capital to crush labor power and take control of everything.

Sensible people: this is doomerism and hysteria.

Navarro: AI is a technology for us to crush labor power and take control of everything.
Peter Navarro: "In an age of AI when all the white collar jobs are going away pretty damn quick, I think maybe it's a good time for people to think about having good blue collar jobs ... give tariffs a chance, because they're working"

This is good news.

Automatic license plate readers endanger everyone's privacy and civil liberties. More cities must follow Flagstaff's lead, and end their partnerships with Flock and other surveillance companies.

honestly coming to the conclusion that most people have no idea _how_ to learn things. they don't poke, prod, ask questions, interrogate.

they sorta expect to be spoonfed surface-level fact patterns

A thousand percent. Being able to ask any stupid question and get some answer back is so valuable. Even better when you push back and contest them, *even if you're unsure*

It's a kind of duelling, almost. Very good for learning
I continue to think LLMs are absurdly powerful for learning, and I'm using them more often for it.

The problem is that a lot of people don't have solid metacognitive skills around epistemics and autodidactism.

You've got to have a handle on what you know, how you learn, and if you're learning.

It's a research center needed for satellites and spaceflight!

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

Republicans want to slash programs across the government and make sure there’s no way for future administrations to fund them.

That means programs like Medicare and Social Security would be on the chopping block.

How did I miss this? This would be terrible.
If this goes through, say goodbte to Wired, Teen Vogue, Ars Technica, The New Yorker, Them, and Vanity Fair as you know them currently.

They'll be gutted and reoriented towards oligarch friendly propaganda.
Bezos is considering purchasing Conde Nast as a present to his now wife. Conde Nast owns not just Vogue but also Wired. Apparently, purchasing media to turn it into a propaganda organ is now the latest nuptial gift among the oligarchs.

I'm going to become the joker.
