If elected officials are so concerned about a negotiation between two private companies, it’s probably an indication that it’s not a great idea to leave such an important part of the economy to the mercy of the market.
30,000 Mainers are at risk of losing in-network insurance coverage at Northern Light facilities. The impact would be catastrophic. With the deadline to reach an agreement with Anthem quickly approaching, 75 Dem. and Ind. lawmakers have signed a letter urging the parties to reach a new contract.

In the latest NSF budget, they're proposing a 75% cut to the Directorate for STEM Education (EDU), which funded the project at Cornell University that produced the Merlin Bird ID app.
I've been taking early walks in the park to watch and listen to birds for my sanity, and the Merlin Bird ID app has been indispensable for identifying bird songs.

Merlin was funded by a grant from the NSF, the science funding agency that Trump is trying to destroy.

I’m a broken record on this but underlying it all is elite contempt - the belief that regular people are a foreign population, probably too stupid to understand any issue that doesn’t directly immiserate or inconvenience them, and can only be approached after carefully assembling polling data
A lot of Dem rhetoric is pandering boilerplate written in committee expressed without the talent of someone like Bill Clinton to make that come across as natural. It's grating, and by all appearances Dems are infatuated with it because of pseudoscientific beliefs that this is persuasive.

If health insurance companies were actually “healthcare providers” they would be using technology to find new ways to save lives, not using technology to develop AI that denies claims and generates profits faster.

Health insurance is not healthcare.

We need Medicare for All.

STEEP inequality doesn't occur in "nature" & society as an organic phenomenon.
It's socially engineered thru financial policies that only benefit few & not the majority of Americans.
In the last 40 years 50 trillion $ have been transferred to the very top.
See @hcrichardson.bsky.social & others.
The combined net worth of America's twelve wealthiest people passed $2 trillion last year.

12 people. $2 trillion.

Meanwhile, U.S. homelessness increased 18% in 2024.

Our problem isn’t an issue of resources.

Our problem is ever-expanding wealth inequality.

IMO Medicare for all will still require major private health care contracts and corporate third party vendors to process claims. Let’s work to take ALL corporate profit out of healthcare and provide direct government care.

That’s probably too progressive, but we do it at the VA every day.
