Chicago. Very unsure whether I really want to do this social media thing again but definitely not here for outrage.

@kaydaly.bsky.social I should introduce you and @stacia.bsky.social because you're both great and because you both deal with writing and editing. Kay is a friend here in Chicago and an author while Stacia is a friend from college and an editor. hi hi!

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

If the bribes given to FIFA officials were as worthless as the prize they gave DJT, FIFA wouldn't have any corruption issues.

We live on the first floor but while investigating a rumbling (3rd floor movie, I think?), I found the staircase window half a floor up was open at the top. People have had their (our) heat on for a month. Four other units (7 people) didn't notice in that time. WTF.

one THOUSAND percent.

I mean, I know we're all masses of contradictions, but not fucking trying to claim a piece of the public road is a very low bar to clear to demonstrate you understand you live in a neighborhood, with other human beings, in a society.
Dibs is antisocial behavior and I find posts characterizing it as a cute regional traditional both annoying and disappointing.

I know Chicago as a city that shows up for each other so why y'all refusing to help out when we're all going through this weather together

After walking to the tenement museum; through the Kelvinbridge neighborhood, park and museum; and back, found the hotel's restaurant closed. Quick trip to Tesco for bubbles, whisky, chocolate and popcorn. Good trip, look forward to being home tomorrow. Miss our cats!

Just to hammer this home- there are no societal problems for tech to solve. We already solved then. We know how to do clean energy. We know how to cut emissions. We have the resources to feed and house everyone. We've shown UBI and univ. healthcare work.

We just need to care enough to DO all of it.
The greatest difference we could make to our future generations is not…any of the shit we hear people saying about tech.

It is learning how to care for each other enough to create and hold a real, lasting peace.

Ask people, especially ones you are afraid you will lose sooner than later, what are their favorite memories. Give them space to share the best things with the hope they won't be forgotten.

One year ago right now, we were on the train headed to New Orleans. We didn't make it to Jackson before my mother passed on, a few hours shy. Sometimes I have guilt at my lack of regret. Other times, I regret my lack of guilt. Human condition, second guessing, imperfect decisions.

I miss her.

There are probably laws that prevent this (that could change?) but holy moley, yes yes yes. Let the funds come from their pensions and I bet "bad apples" aren't tolerated nearly as much.
Unless and until the settlements in the civil suits resulting from these assaults start coming from law enforcement pension funds, nothing will change. We the taxpayers are funding this behavior. We need to make law enforcement pay for their own bad behavior.
