The only appropriate response to this is impeachment and removal from office. Every moment the political press spends spinning out theories about 2026 and immigration polling is a minute they are not spending asking Republicans in Congress about their plans to enforce the rule of law

The U.S. state department updates its report on human rights to no longer call out governments that deny freedom of movement, jail political prisoners without due process or restrict “free and fair elections.”

This is to streamline the report to be inline with U.S. policy.

This is foreshadowing.
The State Department is changing its mind about what it calls human rights
The agency's annual human rights reports are being purged of references to prison conditions, political corruption and other abuses.

The idea that you can be condemned to an entire lifetime of forced servitude without legal means to even appeal it?

Its slavery yeah, but its a very specifically American flavored type of slavery

There's no end in sight. No hope. No freedom.

Its a different type of slavery.

While that's true, chattel slavery in the new world was the only place (AFAIK) that automatically dictated that if you were born to a slave, you were gonna be slave. You couldn't even be born free.

If the civil war hadn't happened, 90% of Black ppl would still be slaves.

Its same mentality to me

I can't help but see a link between chattel slavery and the deportations to el Salvador

And not just the forced labor part, but the you deserve this life from cradle to grave if we so deem it.

ppl who minimize chattel slavery in the US do so based on the idea that many cultures had slavery

It’s a small point and nobody behind this cares, for obvious reasons, but if what happened at Columbia were a response to something Columbia or anyone specific there did wrong, it would make no sense to treat it as a “prototype” to replicate across a “sector.” Faculty who leaned into this are fools.
Rufo would "like to see that prototype [what's happened at Columbia and elsewhere] industrialized and applied to all of the universities as a sector" and that he would like "to reduce the size of the [higher education] sector itself."

Videos of these were seen over a year ago as the IOF was starting to test them out in Gaza. First exported from the US to Israel to be tested on Palestinians, now brought back to the US to be used here.

As an East African, articles like this merely underscore that people in the US have no idea what their government has been doing in their name in our home.
"If the government can disappear any people it wishes, dump them in a Salvadoran dungeon and prevent any court in this country from providing relief, we all should be very, very afraid."
Opinion | Trump’s Gulag Archipelago (Gift Article)
Trump is seeking to establish a truly chilling proposition: that no one can stop his administration from imprisoning anyone it wants, anywhere in the world.

A big question worth asking as we embark on this acceleration through constitutional crisis to constitutional reckoning is what, if anything, should be set up differently so that an executive that so flagrantly and repeatedly violates the courts.

Should the courts have a gundam, basically.
