Neither the Tories nor Starmer’s Blue Labour-infected cabal can see that Heseltine represents the decent humane majority of the electorate.

The Tories, lost in the stinking fog of Farage’s cigarette smoke, won’t listen.

But Labour should - if it cares about its own survival and our democracy.

The best thing Conservatives could do - whatever they think of Margaret Thatcher - is to face up to the challenges of their own times, rather than trying to cosplay a leader who was formed in the 1930s and 40s, who took power half a century ago & who governed for the challenges of her day, not ours.

Now that the two main parties are no longer coalitions, a mechanism needs to be put in place to ensure that enables coalition between parties: PR.

But how do we persuade Labour and the Tories to ditch FPTP?

In Labour’s case, the membership are open to persuasion, the leadership isn’t.

If coalition-building no longer happens within parties, it will need to happen between them.

The problem is that our electoral system simply cannot cope with multi-party politics.

The effect may be to contract even further the range of opinion that's represented in Parliament and government.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

There is a decency agenda absolutely in tune with majority feeling in the country that would be an open goal for the government if it wasn't also inclined to lurch towards an unpleasant space. Indeed it is one Keir Starmer could have personified if he could escape "Blue Labour" unpleasantness.

Everyone should be able to worship free from fear and terror.

Why does Heseltine insist he wants the Conservatives back in power? The party that he used to serve no longer exists. Brexit destroyed it.

If he wants ‘Trump’s mouthpiece’ Farage nowhere near No 10, he should recognise that Badenoch and her likely replacement Jenrick are helping to put him there.
