Chico is eight years old and was surrendered to the shelter on October 5th. He has now spent 89 days waiting, wondering, and hoping. We do not know much about his past because the person who surrendered him had only had him for a short time, which likely means Chico was rehomed before. That alone breaks our hearts. What we do know is that he is good with kids, incredibly sweet, and full of life. Chico does not act like an eight year old dog. He still has energy, loves his walks, enjoys playtime, and lights up for a simple butt scratch.Since coming to the shelter, Chico has been struggling with some skin issues, including ear infections in both ears and a few areas of furunculosis. He has been receiving treatment, and thankfully, most of those issues have now resolved. Through it all, Chico has remained gentle, loving, and trusting.He has watched other dogs through the fence and always looks playful and curious. If you have a dog, the shelter encourages a meet and greet so Chico can show you who he really is. What hurts the most is knowing that for 89 days, his life has been the same. About 20 minutes outside to play and feel normal, then back to his kennel where he spends 23 hours and 40 minutes alone. Every single day.Chico is running out of time. He is on the urgent list and desperately needs a hero. All he wants is a safe place, a warm bed, and a family to love him the way he deserves. Please help us save Chico.
