The bad news: Arkansas legislative committee pours $32M more into Gov. Sanders' school vouchers scheme, bringing total this year to $310M. The good news: It passed narrowly on a voice vote, so perhaps some Republican legislators are coming to their senses on this boondoggle.

GOP scrambles to kill Venezuela war powers resolution
GOP scrambles to kill Venezuela war powers resolution
Senate GOP leaders are working overtime to quash a resolution requiring President Donald Trump to come to Congress before taking additional military action in Venezuela. They don’t yet know if they have the votes. Majority Leader John Thune said Wednesday they are in conversations with rank-and-file GOP members, five of whom voted with Democrats to advance the measure last week. The administration has offered “assurances,” he said, including by stating there are no U.S. troops currently in Venezuela and no plan to send them in. “These are consequential, big decisions and people want to feel like they’re honoring their obligations to the people that they represent and their own views on some of these issues,” Thune said.. Senate Republicans are discussing a procedural off-ramp by turning off the “privilege” of the resolution. Under that strategy, senators would be asked to concur in a point of order that the resolution should not be subject to a simple-majority vote since there are no ongoing hostilities. One of the five, Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, told reporters Wednesday that he would support that proposal if it is offered, pointing to Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s pledge to abide by notification procedures if the administration sends in troops. Besides Hawley, GOP leaders would need to win one more of the four remaining Republicans who previously voted to advance the resolution.

Kill a news broadcast to win approval for a merger. I bet that nets out for the Ellisons. After all, when Trump is becoming more and more unpopular, why pivot toward his supporters? That doesn't seem like a good business model. So there must be other reasons for the Barification of CBS News.
Viewers are rejecting Tony Dokoupil's "CBS Evening News," with the show down 23% in viewers year over year.

"CBS isn’t losing the evening news race, they already lost it," one veteran TV exec told me. Another called the debut a "big whiff."

The Dokoupil Dud
Despite wall-to-wall promotion, Tony Dokoupil’s "CBS Evening News" debut has delivered a ratings dud—and perhaps exposed the limits of Bari Weiss' MAGA-ification of the network.

Sure seems like racial profiling.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

Himmler won't be there with you when you get in trouble. You'll be on your own.
