There's a shocking amount of whining/Mamdani bashing in NYC Facebook regarding unmelted snow. Everywhere I've been in the city since the storm has been fine, or at least in line with expectations.

Is this entirely an effort to manufacture outrage? Very unclear to me what people are mad about.

Most people don't want to hear it but Dungeness crab is really the only crab worth getting excited about. (I am in Washington).

deposing a foreign ruler and spending tens of billions of dollars on oil subsidies so we can put American frackers out of business, just in time for EVs to permanently collapse oil demand. that's the Trump business touch alright

All you need to know about this NYT puff piece about a startup trying to "optimize love" is this guy in the purple cape standing in the background of the image at the top.

On the plus side, by covering their foreign policy adventurism with the veneer of a "law and order" approach, the administration opens themselves to the very real chance they'll fail to get convictions in court. Thus far their lawfare revenge tour hasn't resulted in much success.

One of these cult leaders had predicted that the "singularity" was gonna be in 2025. I think we all made it right? Barring anything happening in the next few days.

They'll update their so-called "calculations" (I.e. numbers out of asses) for the next "prediction."

Who STILL platforms these people?

and where NYC does meter parking, they give it away for free on Sunday. Free parking on Sunday is such an asinine thing for NYC to do, yet nobody ever questions it.

Manhattan aside it’s pretty insane that the rest of the country - from relatively small towns to big cities - has residential permit parking and NYC has no such thing.

Why did 2 new Japanese grocery stores open in Cobble Hill this month within 1/4 mile of an already existing Japanese grocery store? Don't get me wrong, this is great, but I worry that none of them will survive this much competition.

Something cool I just realized is that most people assume that if you're using a CLI you must be doing some kind of super difficult and technical work. So I just installed Rogue on my work computer for the first time in decades.

I would like @cityandstateny.bsky.social to include Eric Adams on the annual losers list every year from now on. Can we just make that a tradition? www.cityandstateny.com/personality/...

After the National Guard shooting, the US needs to reckon with how its legacy of global violence inevitably comes home. Stephen Miller wants to do anything but.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Is there a tl;dr on how Ray Dalio came to be viewed as a sort of macroeconomic oracle? He seems to have replaced Buffet as the one investor whose views are regularly all over the media. Did he get some predictions right that everyone else got wrong?

I know the No Kings movement, such as it is, lacks any critique or program more nuanced than "Orange Man Bad," and the optics of the new rococo East Wing play right into their narrative, but I still have found the reaction to this series of events profoundly depressing.

The only reasonable policy response to this is to make all of downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights into a pedestrian/bike/bus only zone. No cars north of Atlantic and west of Flatbush unless on the BQE or an approach to one of the bridges. static1.squarespace.com/static/61f01...
