But Benedict Arnold did a lot of military work for the US on his own dime, and repeatedly tried to do right by the US despite being shot down every time. He only went to the British when he thought he had no other choice. No one else on this list did that.

Communication errors don’t exist in a vacuum... especially not in communities that have had to question every ‘error’ before. Patterns don’t need intent to carry impact. But it's usually worthy of inquiry and implication, rather than letting it slide IMO.
