Swift exploits her fans. There is a subset of her audience who would covet having every edition of her albums and a smaller subset that would spend what money they have on them (and fandom can impoverish people, it’s not only wealthy people who would buy these things)

MAGA pastor Hank Kunneman brags that he's been using prayer to "restrain the power of evil" that Omaha, Nebraska's Democratic mayor John Ewing, Jr. would otherwise do: "The reason he's going to behave himself is not because I have to write a letter, but I'm praying, I'm praying in my secret time."

My son Waleed is losing the progress he made in therapy after our displacement in Gaza. With no medical care and rising prices of food and medicine, his health is worsening. He urgently needs treatment and proper nutrition to recover. 💔🙏

Who’s on the hot seat in Trump’s cabinet? I took an informal poll of the president’s advisors in Inner Loop for this week, and the results might surprise you.

“Worst, Bondi,” they begin. “2.) Bondi. 3.) Bondi. 4.) Bondi. 5.) HegsethRFKTulsiNoem.”

I'm about to vote on the SAME Republican budget proposal for the 6th time.

Why?

Instead of working with Democrats to lower health care costs, Republicans are forcing us to vote over and over again on a budget that would let 15 million Americans lose their coverage.

“The market that emerges under siege is not a sign of resilience—it is a system of predation born of deliberate policy.”

As Israel’s blockade drives Palestinians into daily negotiations with their dignity, women have become the front-line managers of scarcity, Mariam Mohammed Al-Khateeb writes.

JB Pritzker's forceful, defiant response to Trump's threat to jail him confirms the points I tried to make in the piece and thread below about the role of conflict and attention in the public battle over Trump's authoritarian takeover:

On ICE raids and attacks in Chicago, local reporters have consistently shown up the national outlets attempting to report remotely.

Locals continue to break story after story even as the nationals are summarizing govt press releases. They've shown physical bravery in very dangerous circumstances.

"With local news in a severe tailspin for decades, there was a real question about whether Chicago’s media would meet the moment. But they have indeed," writes @markjacob.bsky.social in Stop The Presses.
