What is it with people on speaker phone? Do they not realize they can hold the phone to their ear and keep a great portion of the conversation private?

Why does everyone want everything as loud and public as possible, these days?

Your spouse is having an argument with YOU.

Not the rest of us.

I used to have a 10/10 Rule. Take any group: 10% of the people are idiots and 10% are a-holes. But I always clarified that meant that I believed 80% of people are decent and trying their best to be good.

I no longer have faith in those numbers.

Interesting what Crick notes.

Farage like Mogg and Johnson are really just grown up versions of their teenage selves. Lots of public school boys leave fully formed - and armed with an entitlement and a sense of empowerment that takes them through the rest of their lives.
On why Farage doesn’t apologise for his schoolboy racism:
“if he apologised, he would be turning to his own support base and saying, ‘You’re all guilty too.’ ”
Exactly.
He is racist. So are his voters. He can’t be pissing them off by saying sorry.

That's correct for all art forms. Das stimmt übrigens für alle Orte, an denen Kunst gemacht (oder gelehrt) wird.
I guarantee you if we took all the funding away from the legendary assholes and gave it to talented nice people, we would have an equal if not greater amount of good movies and fewer traumatized and miserable assistants, crew, and actors.

Not as a group, no. But I think being normal is acting in accordance with your individual needs, it shouldn’t be based on how common your needs are.

Newsom could’ve said “we need to focus on common goals” - neutral, reasonable

Instead, he chose to say “culturally normal.” This is loaded language. It warns you about not conforming. It stigmatizes those who do not. It’s a bad and divisive choice, and i think it’s worth noting.

Here is my rant for the year and The Era:

We need to stop confusing the words “normal” and “common.”

It may seem trivial, but the differences between them are the differences between using stigmatizing language and descriptive language, they’re the whole piñata of difference.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”
