I think what amazes me most about this budgetary tight-fistedness is the way that, at the end of the day, it saves absolutely nothing on the bottom line

all these cuts and there's nothing but MORE red ink to show, because they're not actually "efficient," they're just *cheap*

Stop scolding them about the TYPE of information they disclosed - start asking why they went offline with it - start asking them what else they are hiding from the public.

“What else are you back channeling?”
Warner: And the idea somehow, well, none of this was classified, but we can't talk about it here. You can't have it both ways.

A key takeaway from Columbia should be that compliance does not buy safety. Unis are viewing the admin's attack on higher ed as a prisoner's dilemma (best strategy: comply), leading to a collectively worse outcome. The only way out is collective action, & unlike true PD, unis can coordinate action.

Begging grown adults to read Jorge Luis Borges's fantastic short story "The Library of Babel" whenever they think GenAI is being useful
yeah ill bang this drum as many times as i need to, everything produced by generative ai is a "hallucination." Accuracy is a coincidence
i’m very open to ChatGPT having some utility. but a few times for If Books Could Kill i’ve asked ChatGPT to aggregate existing sources of criticism for a book. what it produces are without fail almost entirely hallucinations. and not just one, i mean lists of 5-6 articles that do not exist.

“Grand Theft Hamlet” is notionally a documentary, but you can think of it “more as a crucible in which the solid forms of film, theatre, and video games have been stirred until they melt,” Anthony Lane writes.
The Player’s the Thing in “Grand Theft Hamlet”
A film about a performance of “Hamlet” within the world of Grand Theft Auto suggests that the moral environment of revenge tragedy is not far from that of video games.

Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.
