Hydrogen bomb test Hardtack I Poplar: Detonated July 12, 1958, from a barge off of Namu island in the Bikini Atoll. 9.3 megatons yield. Aircraft in video: Martin RB-57D.

The end will be very beautiful from certain vantage points.

If they throw out birthright citizenship, something the constitution is exceedingly plain about, then I'd say they are completely rogue and outside the bounds of the US constitutional system of government.

It's difficult at times to hold both "this admin is doing lasting and serious damage to our institutions and the globe" and "this admin is full of the most bafflingly incompetent idiots you've ever seen who fall over themselves like a Vaudeville act constantly."

The duality of man is incredible.

In fact, it might be calmer here now because everyone here is in year ten of the attempted fascist takeover. We are unsurprised by any of it. Meanwhile over there people are like, “OMG, fascists! Where’d this come from?”
gluonspring.bsky.social
For the first couple of months of this I’d go visit X to get a dose of people downplaying things just to calm myself. It’s not working now because enough people over there are freaked out too.

Calling him a coward lets him off too easy IMO. He’s an immoral man all on his own, who would be immoral without Trump leaning on him. I read his hateful floor speech last year demonizing and lying about immigrants. Nobody bullied him into giving that inflammatory and lie filled speech.

LOL, she didn't bring any reference materials about what DOJ is actually doing, just a bunch of insult talking points.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.

This will definitely backfire on them. The military isn’t going to be roughing up voters, or not enough to change any outcomes, so the main effect will just be to raise the salience of the election and remind people of the stakes.

Given the trend, what do you guess are the odds of seeing military at polling places next year? At the moment I'm giving it 1:3 odds.

Not to excuse the behavior at all, but is that a pepper ball gun or something similar?

They don't do this because they're religious. Who knows if she is, probably not, but in any event there's no way everyone around that table is. They do this as a political statement and in-group loyalty ritual. To her it's no different from making everyone wear a MAGA hat.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is in Portland meeting with ICE, Border Patrol and DHS officials; Nick Sortor posted video of Noem saying a prayer for the safety of their officers at the start of the meeting.

Plus charismatic! It’s a weird charisma I personally find repulsive, but there is no denying Trump has something people like and none of the other MAGA people have it.
gluonspring.bsky.social
Going to be great when the military is there and we spank them anyway. MAGA lives in a fantasy world where the a few military dudes loitering around will scare away Dem voters but it isn’t going to turn many people away and will probably attract many others.

Oh, man. That looks great.

everyone should legitimately be done forever with @gavinnewsom.bsky.social if he doesn't sign SB79. people took massive risks to get this through, YIMBY groups scraped together a coalition that could get through both chambers, if he fucking bails out now he's worthless.

A bunch of toxic LA NIMBYs are whining about SB 79, the amazing housing bill the CA legislature passed recently.

It's on the governor's desk, and reportedly he's getting cold feet. Hey @gavinnewsom.bsky.social, please have some spine on the most important issue in your state. Just sign it.

Kind of wild to see republicans bring up Epstein!

Sen. Kennedy with another set of probing questions about Epstein 👇

KENNEDY: Have you interviewed Secretary Lutnick?

BONDI: No senator

K: Do you plan to?

B: If he wants to talk to the FBI--

K: Don't you think you ought to talk to him after this interview? Maybe we ought to get Lutnick in here

Lmao at no point here does she say "No, there are no photos of Donald Trump with half-naked young women," she just goes straight to attacking Whitehouse. I'm not sure how she could've made him look guiltier unless she'd actually thrown the original photos at the senators.

NOTABLE -- Pam Bondi refuses to answer direct questions about if the FBI has incriminating photos of Trump with half-naked young women, but instead deflects from them by attacking Sen. Whitehouse
gluonspring.bsky.social
I still find it hard to think that there could be something in the Epstein files that would be that damaging to Trump given the fact that a lot of possibilities are priced in and people no longer believe anything. But, damn, if Republicans don’t keep acting like it contains the end of Trump.

It seems self evident to me that the text is too short to have any single interpretation. As such constitutional law has always seemed fairly made up to me no matter who is doing it. Some ways of making things up are more coherent than others, though.

Just remarkable again that the brain does its thing on 20W. Not 20 kW, 20W.
gluonspring.bsky.social
Think it might take 1kW power. Compare to $250k and 4kW for 8 top GPUs.

Hmm... GPT-3 at 8-bit would need ~175 GB of weights, so 18 large ASIC dies(??), call it 20+ total, @$500-$1000/ea, 10k–$20k in silicon cost(???). Doubt consumers would pay $20k for an AI but they might for a domestic robot with an AI brain. $35k+ for newest models. Business might pay that.

One way or another there are a LOT of people in US politics who should be in prison. This is a fact. That may never happen, or the wrong people might end up there, but you aren’t facing the moment if you don’t accept the reality that definitely 100% there are *literal* traitors among us.
gluonspring.bsky.social
A fundamental fracture in America is that is that both parties can’t be legitimate. Either one party committed massive organized voter fraud or one party treasonously tried to nullify a fair and free election. One of those things definitely happened. Downstream of that what normality is possible?
